Bernardo Silva tweet controversy

But unfortunately politically correct people will continue to make a big deal out of just about anything.

That's one of the problems with this obsession with social media. Someone is always offended and then wants a virtual cuddle. A pig in lipstick wants validation "you look wonderful Babe" from people they don't know and don't really matter.

Instagram, twitter, facef×ck and all the rest switch them off, the supplier and the reader are just to needy. One big advert selling what you don't need

Opinions I’m all for, have an opinion, it doesn’t change anything but opinionated people are welcome on social media of course!

What I don’t get, and maybe it’s an education thing but what was racist about that tweet? I don’t see any discrimination or prejudice.

Images like that have historically been used ridicule and caricature black people. It's really not much different to posting a picture of Mendy next to a picture of a monkey in the name of friendly banter.

If Bernardo had tweeted an image of Sergio along with a pic of the cartoon character Kun would there be this fuss????....just asking seeing as tho the FA have sanctioned Kun Aguero on the back of his shirt since he signed for us.

@roy.or.r mentioned one thing that I completely agree with. The one with his example of his friend making jokes aboout his nationality and color and him being not completely fine with it but deciding to take it on the chin and he questioned if Mendy really likes it. I don't think Mendy is bothered because he really has that clown character and doesn't give a fuck about offending someone or being offended by banter, but it's legit question.

i used to live in Croatia, actually was born there, and as a Muslim, I had fair few of those joking vibes about some of my religious stuff. For some of them I knew they were said to look like a joke, but had half of truth and malignancy in it, but often were not completely over the line for me to make a fuss about it. but for more than once I wasn't completely comfortable and still decided to not escalate the issue eventually. It' bit of autocensorship and I should be in no position to do that.

I definitely don't think there is one iota malignancy in Silva's tweet, as I'm aware what kind of relations these two have, but people who don't see potential in this to be a problematic one are wither not serious or never were in some not comfortable situations. It was pretty naive thing to do publicly, no matter what their relations are and since both of them are working and living in society where it is pretty unacceptable, I don't see any problem for Bernardo to get bit educated. It' better for him, it's better for club. Absolutely no bans or fines are needed, but bit of education what is acceptable or not won't hurt anyone.

I'd rather to see people complaining about political correctness going to far, than to go back in times where everything was allowed. Specially in football where all kind of low emotions are being expressed more easy than in some other parts of society.

Anyway, it's clear where I stand on the issue. I don't mean to derail the thread anymore than I already have. I'll see myself out and back to the Chelsea thread. Thanks to those who engaged with me in good faith.

But...it is different

Listen Roy. I’m pulling up people taking offence. I’m not the one who raised the racism card...that was Vialli98 who accused me of being a racist because I don’t care for people getting offended.

The "you" in my response to you wasn't literally aimed at you. It was aimed at those who wish to say racially insensitive and/or abusive things with impunity.

Edit: i'm really out now. I can't be any clearer about where I stand. There are now several pages with my views.

I mentioned this on the earlier thread that got pulled..On an episode of Corrie a couple of years ago an Asian character called a white female character ‘white trash’..now that is racist and given the recent cases of child grooming by groups of Asian men also an indication of how these groups treat young white girls. How was this not deemed racist at the time? Where were all these politically correct arseholes then?
