I don’t think Rice fits the system at all he’s a potentially nowhere near as good (in the way we play) version of Rodri, but certainly not Bernardo as others have said Bellingham is the one I’d say that’s really capable of progressing to be better but he’s again going to be ~£100m and also not leaving until next year, also have a horrible feeling the dippers have got their hooks in to him.

Paqueta or Nunes would do a job but again not quite the same style wise.

Florian Wirtz, Lorenzo Pellegrini, ( drop jack in midfield, buy a winger that opens another 3-5 players) Federico Valverde ( although difficult to buy ) , Frankie De Jong direct swap, thats without Paqueta and Nunes. Without Bellingham et al. I don’t know all brilliant players in this world, but we bought Bernie from Monaco, he’s not ballon d’or level, he is not the reincarnation of Maradona.

I’ll always have a sweet spot for the hard work and dedication. But at some point this two years prostitution farce for Barca to “please come get me” has got on my nerves. Has he done anything remotely close to Ilkay/Rodri/KDB level since the latter half of last season? Of the bench as well? How many players would trade their socks off to play for us, to win, to learn from the best, and be with the best.

Neither player you mentioned is good enough for city and would be a massive downgrade on Bernardo which is why the club won’t move for them or anybody else until we find the perfect player which will likely be summer 2023.

Why brief categorically that we will need to sign a replacement if we weren’t going to get one? No chance Pep will agree to go with just KDB and Gundo as 8s, particularly as they are both wrong side of 30 with a history of injuries and there are only 3 senior options on the wing.

They’ll know who they want should Bernardo go and what the price is.

The club has a realistic valuation for Bernardo's replacement but it doesn't mean that the selling club would accept that (Brighton and Cucurella being prime example)

All of those names other than Valverde and De Jong are nowhere near good enough. Valverde would be impossible and the club clearly hold no interest in De Jong.
