So he's basically said, "I'll sign a new contract if you lower the asking price for me next year"

The release clause is 55m euros, which is probably more than we'd get if he just had 12 months left

He'll stay an extra year if nobody comes for him

I don't see the downsides, it's only neutral / good

What’s the difference between selling him normally next year and this new contract he’s getting with this supposed RC? The club is just wasting precious wage space for one year if he’s gonna leave next season. You don’t see Madrid do these kind of stuff.

Have you ever heard of a club offer a contract to a player that’s a negative for the club itself?
We’re basically handing Bernardo on a platter to Barca and best believe they will have the funds to get him next year.

Mate - you’ve had a nightmare with this post.

Firstly - no, you don’t get clubs offering contracts that are negative for them. Particularly those as well run as ours, who've been sitting at the top of the Deloitte Money League - ahead of every other Club in world football - for two years running, precisely because we don’t make bone-headed deals like this one!

So, following your own logic on this one, maybe - just maybe - you should go with the assumption this contract isn’t negative for the Club.

Rather than overreacting hysterically to a random tweet from a fan who, with respect, doesn’t have the indie track on the detail on any of our contract negotiations.

If we’re giving him significantly more money (which he deserves, frankly) then you can guarantee it will be on terms that work out more favourably for us.

Otherwise we’d just keep him on the same contract, and save ourselves the financial hit.

It baffles me the lack of faith some fans have in the people running our club.

Both on and off the pitch, we are the best run club in the World right now.

Why would we undermine that by agreeing to a deal a five year old wouldn’t sign?

I think the club realised it would be an absolute disaster if Bernardo left on top of mahrez, gundogan etc. This seems like a compromise between all parties for one more year.
Bernie is our very own Harry Kane.

One more year khaldoon then I am definitely gone-:)

Where do you get your info from on the minutiae of the contract?

Don't talk nonsense, you'll be expecting people to think for themselves next rather than let Twitter do it for them.

It is what it is, I think he deserves the new contract and the pay rise, plus a bit more control on his future.

£50 million for a 30 year old with high wages and no sell on value, probably wanting a 4-5 year deal.

It’s no guarantee someone will pay it.

I do wonder if the £50 million stays the next or is reduced £30 million for example (if I was him I would have looked for something like this)

And if the clause is active during the transfer window or by a certain date (I.e end of July) if I was club I would have wanted this.

We only get snippets as fans, but our board are very business savvy. So whilst I feel our position was weak, we probably have got a deal we feel works for us better then no contract extension.

So our position is better then it was.

Bernado is a great player and has made the difference for us in many many games, but people telling me he is loyal are talking out of their poop shutes if Barcelona had the money he'd have gone ages ago.

Barcelona don't have the money yet they are getting Cancelo for fuck all.

Bernardo could have kicked up a fuss. Barcelona endlessly teased for a fuss. Given the circumstances and the context, he was pretty loyal. Particularly on the pitch. And that most of all is what he is being rewarded for.

Did you read before you posted this.

The difference is that if we don't give him the RC now, he has 1yr left on his contract next season. How much do you think we will get then, a bag of crisps and an IOU?

So, what we have done is extend his contract which not only rewards him for his efforts so far, gives him the RC next year which for all we know may never be triggered but also protects us and guarantees us that fee.

What is negative about keeping one of the best midfielders in the world at the club.

We could easily ask, and probably get, more than the rumoured release clause is. Wouldn't be fair to him imo. We let Mahrez leave for a fair price. Raheem, Jesus, Zinchenko too. Laporte for fuck all, and Cancelo for below market value. Why should Bernardo be the one not to get the same benefit of the club's trust.

The rumoured clause value is pretty low. But also pretty fair, to him, and if there is one player that deserves to go with our blessing should anyone meet it, it is Bernardo.

People moaning about his release clause , Bernie earned it . Stop moaning about it and not be a one dimensional dick head.
All parties involved are happy , we got one season to look for his replacement while he gets his wish after a long loyal service .
One Dimensional Dickhead would be a magnificent username for a few on here, mate.
