Rice and Mount are both 5 years younger than Bernardo. Both Mount and Rice were inter Premier League transfers. Only PL clubs plus PSG, Barcelona and Real Madrid can pay big fees. Given we all know you would never sell Bernardo to a domestic rival, PSG know there is no one to bid against given Real Madrid and Barcelona are not interested.
If Chelsea sold Haavertz to Bayern, it would have been for around 40m. But they were willing to sell to a domestic rival so they got a full fee, likewise with Mount. You can say the same thing last year with Jesus and Sterling.
The conditions are just not right for a sale of 60-80m for Bernardo. Everything points to a sale of less than 50m, either that or you keep him for another season.
I offer you Kovacic… We paid £25m! I’ll also point out Barça have been promising Bernardo for the last 3 windows that he’s their no1 priority, yet every window they fuck him about! It’s not about nobody being able to pay and more about clubs know City will bend over on sales to ship them off the wage bill. PSG are struggling with balancing their books, they are trying it on and I suspect if he goes there that it’ll be “undisclosed’ for 12 months until their/our accounts are released.
Some Man City fans think Jesus was sold too cheaply, some think we had your pants down but either way that’s the same with any transfer at any club. Rice/Mount maybe younger by 5 years but they’ll never be Bernardo Silva, they are not really fit enough to lace his boots and never will be. You cannot therefore compare their fee’s on age and position alone.
I do agree domestic sales can and sometimes do offer a premium on the valuation but I’d not say it’s a standard, my original first four words back that up.
City don’t have to sell him either, he has 2 yrs left on his contract and despite wanting to leave a few seasons now, he’s a professional and has always given 100% effort. I’d be more than happy to keep him, I’d personally not sell him for £100m as he’s that valuable to us in terms of what he brings to the table, but £80m is cheap and fair in reality.
I also don’t agree the conditions are not right to demand a true valuation, with the Saudi’s now sniffing around players and wanting top draw players in their league, now is the perfect time to demand a high amount for one of our prize assets. It’s simple business, if clubs want him they pay up, if not he can continue 2 more years and leave for free. Bernardo to the French league or Saudi Arabia draws bums on seats and would be a marque signing for either league.
