That’s not what Pep said in the last interviewDon't need to sign a winger for this season if we did keep Bernardo.

You keep over stretching every player in the squad to cover three or four positions and you don’t see the issueFoden is a versatile player he can cover. Same with Alvarez

Versatility is key. Quality over quantity. You keep over stretching every player in the squad to cover three or four positions and you don’t see the issue
Pep said we didn't necessarily need a direct replacement for Mahrez, more someone who can operate centrally. That's what I read in to his pre match Atletico interviewThat’s not what Pep said in the last interview

It’s not about versatility, it’s about squad sufficiency. Some people ignore that Mahrez did play and contribute a lot to last season even if he wasn’t in the starting XI consistently. They also ignore that Cancelo was our defender with the most minutes until he left. You take him out of the first half of the season and how does the squad look at the end of the season with all his minutes having to be played by others. Oh but “we won the treble because he left”. Maybe we won because he was there when he was?Versatility is key.
He said we will see if we need wingers or inside players. It’s one or the other. The way the squad looks and knowing his preferences, I’d be surprised if it isn’t wingersPep said we didn't necessarily need a direct replacement for Mahrez, more someone who can operate centrally. You seem to not understand my point, which isn’t new or exclusive to me by reading your posts.Grealish played a lot better without Cancelo in the team for starters. In fact we looked a better balanced when we shipped Cancelo out.

You mentioned Cancelo being the defender with the most minutes. Again he wasn't performing and causing problems off the pitch as well. He didn't even impress at Bayern Munich. We are still good for this season regardless of the departures of both Gundogan and Mahrez. No need to panic buy.You seem to not understand my point, which isn’t new or exclusive to me by reading your posts.

Cancelo was covering a lot of minutes for months. You take him out of the squad as ask the other players to play when he did, how does it work? With Ake and Stones having injury issues constantly, and others eventually. How does the squad look at the end of the season? You mentioned Cancelo being the defender with the most minutes. And who is saying PANIC buy with a month to go in the transfer window?? We have a scouting department with answers to all our needs.
Especially funny is that when we did panic buy (Akanji), we won the treble. And people here thought we didn’t need him
I know exactly how it pans out if things stay the way they are. And I am saying it now before the season starts.Nah. Cancelo caused trouble and it affected the teams morale. I wouldn’t read too much into what pep says and his quotes can be interpreted many different ways.
Alvarez for example didn’t start enough games so with Mahrez leaving I would expect his game time to improve. Will he be able to reach Mahrez numbers is the question. Phil also was very hit and miss last season for a multitude of reasons and I would expect him to kick on.
Are we also short on numbers? Probably by 1 maybe 2 players. We can still be successful next season without adding anymore players but equally we could fall short.
who knows how it will pan out.
No point buying for the sake of it.We need both
And yet people here thought it wasn’t needed. Even when Laporte was fit it was still dependent on fitness all around.Laporte was injured.
No one is saying that. It’s you who have this mentality that any name isn’t better than what we have as if we can only sign Mbappe and Vinicius Jr or just stick with what we gotNo point buying for the sake of it.
If we are a highly successful team then why shouldn't stick to what we have got and wait for the correct target to improve the team. Harry Kane did us a favour in turning us down. We did manage that season by winning the title and it gave us time to secure Haaland. Liverpool kept up with us for a couple of seasons by not having a deep squad and keeping their key players fit for the whole season. And yet people here thought it wasn’t needed. Even when Laporte was fit it was still dependent on fitness all around.
