The only ones I know that are in what could be classed as being in town are in Rusholme or on Portland Street!
Never been to the Rusholme Chippy, but the Portland Street one is pretty nice. Next door to the Circus Tavern, and used to enjoy it there after a jar or 4.
Never been in that chippy but the Circus used to be a great boozer. The old landlord, little Greek fella who used to wander around singing Rat Pack tunes, has left now, I think. Someone on here said he's got another pub in town somewhere.

Is it really Europe's smallest pub? If so, then its true to its slogan; "The smallest bar in Europe, the biggest welcome in the World".
no the station in didsbury is smaller than that and also i think the smallest pub in europe is in north wales

Bunch of chip-munching hicks and hillbillies...

George the Greek, he's got the Abercrombie on Bootle Street.

Just read the complete thread. Hands up who could murder a battered cod right now? Come on, let`s see those hands raised.

Absolutely. Probably my favourite chippy in the Manchester area, my fiancee used to live on Palatine Road and we'd go there if we couldn't be arsed cooking. Very nice portions, and doesn't cost the earth. What else could you ask for, chippywise?

Ah, cheers GSC, I thought it was you who mentioned it before but wasn't sure.
Is that boozer any kop? Is George still performing?
Legend has it that at one stage, the Circus was the only place in the city centre that Hurricane Higgins wasn't barred from.

Yeah it's pretty good, a lot of the regulars have followed him down and he still does a turn. Ha ha that rumour about Higgins wouldn't surprise me!
