Best drummer ever!

Many don't know, but Ginger Baker, Mitch Mitchell, and Keith Moon all took a clinic with Elvin Jones when Jones was in Europe with Coltrane.

This is why the three have very similar styles, and that style is Elvin Jones.

OB1's list is good - lotta good drummers on there.
Alex Van Halen is very under-rated. Eddie gets all the plaudits but Alex really pounds a mean rythym. His double pedal work is just amazing.
The original drummer for AC/DC (Phil Rudd?) is good too.

Good point. The intro to Hot for Teacher is amazing.

Phil Rudd: the Charlie Watts of Heavy Rock; and that is a compliment. Sometimes less is more. Simon Kirke, Max Weinberg are other guys who fit that kind of bill.

Saw Tom Petty at RAH and his drummer Steve Ferrone is very good, reminded me a bit of Carter, who plays drums for the Dave Matthews Band and is really impressive live.

Good call but would also suggest a listen to when the leeve breaks off led zepp 4
awsome

The best rock drummer was John Bonham, Bonzo's work on In My Time of Dying always captivates me, there's some kick drum work that just shakes the ground.

My favourite drummers list is not just the most technically adept guys I've seen:

1. John Bonham
2. Keith Moon
3. Neil Peart
4. Cozy Powell
5. Stewart Copeland
6. Carl Palmer
7. Alex Van Halen
8. Kenny Aronoff
9. Ian Paice
10. Roger Taylor

I'll got for Carl Palmer, seeing as no-one else has.

Or Rowan Atknson who, admittedly, does more with less...

An excellent call, Sir.

Also high on the list, Collins' partner in crime for the last 35 years, Chester Thompson. Check out ANY of their many drum duets on youtube. Fantasic.

The rest of my faves, are
Moon
Copeland
Peart

Never really got Bonham. Just loud (imo)

is Keith Moon.

most people say keith moon i dont really no why. he did hit his drums i a bit of a wild manner perhaps thats why

most drummers drumed the beat. Moon drumed the song. They were the best sounding band Ive heard and they had 3 instruments. Why? a Genius on Drums and a Genius on Bass Guitar.
