Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix)

Brian Downey, (Thin Lizzy) was seriously under-rated, but playing in a band with Gary Moore and Phil Lynott, he was never over-shadowed.

Alan White, not the ex-Oasis one, is also a superb drummer.

Alan White is indeed very tasty.
My 2c would be whoever drummed for James Brown and the dude from the Meteors. And Phil Rudd for sheer perseverance in laying down a rock-solid 4 on the floor which has yet to be bettered.
