BEST FANS IN THE WORLD

It doesn't matter, grow up. 26K turned up, big deal. I don't blame anyone for not going when they can watch it on the telly for free. Why does it matter, unless you are some kiddie who is arsed what your Man United mates say?

Clubs don't get massive gates for Cup games, until close to the final. Every club is the same, more or less. Some do better, some do worse. City have been in the latter category for years now.

Fucking live with it and stop letting it upset you. And stop pontificating about loyalty.

And Yes, I went.

So in a game thats finally balanced do you think City will play better in a half empty or full Coms?

We should make it so that your season ticket automatically means you HAVE TO buy tickets for every cup game....oh wait.

Fed up of these threads.

In an ideal world every city fan would go.

In the real world, people may have to carefully choose their games as they don't have a money tree in the back garden.

Yes it's not that expensive for a ticket but not everybody lives in Manchester. Some have to pay train fare/parking/food/drink etc... which brings the total cost up to around £60 for somebody like me. Then add on work commitments....i would certainly be very hard pushed to get to Coms for 7:45 on a weeknight. By the time i'd get home it would be past midnight.

It just doesn't make sense to choose these sort of games over the ones that aren't on the telly. Believe me, if i lived nearer i'd be there as £15 for a ticket is reasonable, but midweek games are a great deal of hassle for a lot of fans who aren't local.

Most fans would love to be able to spend £200+ per month watching City- but in the real world not many can afford it. I'd guess that 1 game per month is only just attainable for those who don't own season tickets. That's pretty much the case with me anyway.

That's the beauty of the internet, though, Paul. You could be 35 - or you could be ten. I could be Noel Gallagher, for all you know...wait a minute....

You have my apology for labelling you a 'Johnny Come Lately'

Problem is, this forum is now infested with people who somehow want recognition for being a City fan, and more worringly, in my opinion, acknowledgement from outsiders, rivals fans, the media etc.

Since when were City fans concerned what others thought about them. I am a similar age to you, so, in turn, have also seen us win nowt.

So you will also know this argument has raged well before we got on board.

Ask people like my dad in the early 60s - before we hit the big time what our crowds were - anything between 8k (yes) and 20k.

All of a sudden we start winning trophies and crowds of high 50s were the norm at Maine Road.

It's a fact of life, people attach themselves to success in all areas of life.

The difficult on here, especially for late teens and early twentysomethings, is they tar everyone with the same brush when it comes to coming out for cup games.

No one bats an eyelid when manure have crowds in the cup which are 30-35k down on average.

No one mentions the fact away clubs generally also take 10-12k travelling support to the swamp.

Why can't you just enjoy the game without being overly preoccupied by the sparsity of the crowd?

Actually I'm all for this line of debate if your going to try and sensibly pinpoint the reasons for the 20000 empty seats but please don't sit on your high horse pouring scorn on those who didn't attend. I'm sure the fans who watched it on TV would have preferred to be watching it inside COMS if their personal circumstances permitted - it must have felt like a too much of a struggle for a lot of people for whatever reason - time, money, myob...? City fans probably aren't the "best fans in the world" but they are pretty fucking good, have stuck by the club through thick and thin (often very thin) and shouldn't be made to feel guilt for non attendance.

I went last night. But it was a close call whether I went or not.

It's not "£15" ... last night cost me the best part of £60 and back home at midnight. A half day off work thrown in as well.

And it was free on telly.

I've more than paid my dues over the years, and I'll go so long as I can afford it.

But I don't have a bottomless purse. And I don't expect some spotty kid pointing fingers at me either.

I didnt go last night but sat through the awful group stages games and that was the reason i didnt go because i knew it would be the same. Freezing, poor crowd and an extra 50 pound out of my pocket when i could just watch it for free in bed.

Sick of people having a go on here, im more bothered about how the team plays not how many peoples there, it doesnt affect our game. Full house against chelsea and united but it meant fuck all because we played poorly must of been our fault for not making enough noise.

I'll tell you something else, while I'm "on one".

City have never been "the best fans in the land" and never will.

Because there is no such thing. Football fans are just people who follow a club. What makes a City fan better than someone who watches Rochdale week in week out? I'll tell you what, nothing does.

City's support held up well when we went down the divisions. That's it. But to label us "the best fans in the land" is nonsense.

Yes, it helps the team (sometimes) to be watched by a big crowd. Sometimes it works the other way. It was no coincidence when we fell from grace that our home record was appalling when our crowds were big. Players were frightened to play at Maine Road because of the shit they got.

The main reason for wanting big crowds used to be money. But now that doesn't really matter either.

To quote the original poster - "Best fans in the land -my arse". It's a stupid phrase.

Good response to, but some fans can't get to every game.

We need to get more fans in the ground on nights like this. And those that go, have to get behind the team. We were outsung last night by 1500 visiting fans whose team was always 2nd best.

For a country that claims to be the home of football, we have a lot to learn from the visiting fans who have shown 10 x the passion for their club, and the game

but these teams treat it like a cup final , when they play any english team
