Best Guitar Solos

Gotta give it to David Gilmour of Pink Floyd for the likes of Mother, Comfortably Numb, Time, Dogs etc etc. But my personal favourite would be Johnny Marr on the Smiths track Paint A Vulgar Picture.

Live Forever
Back in Anger
Shout it out loud

Simple chords, don’t stretch for too long. Just done perfectly.

Prince played an astonishing solo at the end of this, I didnt even know he was such a guitarist !

'Tis a thing of joy to see Prince in full flight ...... this appearance got many outside his fanbase to see what we see at every gig he did. Always played some amazing solos ... one of the best I saw him do was at Manchester Apollo, and during his cover of Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love.

I've always likes this one:

From about 3:41 onwards, but it takes a while to get going.

That's a strange list and strange choices of songs by some bands (Lizzy, Zeppelin, AC/DC, Purple etc)

Freebird my personal favourite is outside the top 25 and no Rush in sight......

TBF it's got a reasonable number of the obvious classics but not necessarily in the right order.

Not sure why you think the Purple choice of Highway Star is odd?

I'm sure I could find a place for an Alex Lifeson effort in my own top 50.

edit: Mind you, had a quick look at that clip of Purple and it doesn't appear to feature the actual iconic solo from the studio version :(

I suspect this thread will be hijacked by metal heads reeling off 5 minute boreathon solos. I prefer a short and sweet affair personally......

The Pretenders - Kid
Blondie - Picture This
Neil Young - Like a hurricane
Beatles - Taxman
Stone Roses - Made of Stone
Aztec Camera - Walk out to winter
Thin Lizzy - Cowboy song

Kudos for picking Cowboy Song.
