best opposition anthem

Blue Moon leaves me cold, hate it and always have.

I feel it sucks the life out of the stadium due to its morose tone.

I wouldn't even mind but it's not even an anthem, it's a chorus that few know the rest of the words to.

There's this perception we have always sung it, but it's not too late to consign it to the dustbin.
Totaly agree, when we first started singing it in the Kippax and everyone knew the words it was great.

Blue Moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own

Blue Moon
You know just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for

And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will ever hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And then I looked to the Moon it turned to gold

Blue Moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own.

That is what we use to sing.

Over the years it has got less and less and now we sing 2 lines of it if we are lucky then it dies away. Hate it.

i'm not having that. we possibly used to sing the first two versus, although i don't recall even one occasion. however, having rarely missed a home game during the 90's, i would say we've NEVER sang all that.

That's my favourite but I have got a soft spot for "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles" as well.

agreed with both of these shouts!

Can't remember the last time we sung blue moon for more than 15 seconds. Some anthem that. In general though, i really do think our songs are rubbish. Where's the imagination and creativity gone? We only have about 3/4 different tunes on a match day (if we're lucky), to which we just apply different words to. And don't get me started on "Come on City." I fucking hate that! If you hear that chant, it means we are playing shit.

Predictable and mentioned loads, has to be You'll Never Walk Alone.

I love Blue Moon when the whole stadium sings it, makes the hairs stand up on my neck, i get goosebumps instantly.

Is there a song about Manchester out there somewhere?
I can't think of one off-hand. The nearest is Manchester Rambler by Ewan McColl, which is OK when you're in a folk club and pissed but not really suitable as a football anthem.

everton - its a grand old team to play for

That one is hilarious. The song you mention is a world famous Celtic song, whereas Everton are devoid of any originality whatsoever.

As far as I know Everton don't have an anthem of their own. The only song I have ever known from them is Ev-er-ton, Ev-er-ton, Ev-er-ton.
