Best player we brought in on loan or free?

Someone might shoot me down here , but didnt we get Tony Coleman from Doncaster Rovers on a free transfer because of his discipinary problems , if he was a free transfer , there is none better. He was a tenacious winger with a never say die attitude and could play a bit ,a short lived career at our club but he made a massive contribution to our '68 title team and '69 FA Cup win.

Daniel Van Buyten is one who springs to mind for me because he was too good for us at the time. He only played 6 games for us, (one being the 4-1 win over Utd). But he looked like an absolute world beater. However, I seem to remember we couldn't/wouldn't lump up the fee at the time and then he came out and said he didn't want to stay at City either. He went to Hamburg instead, and then signed for Bayern Munich where he won everything possible.

Pizarro was a classy player, a pity he was towards the end of his career when we brought him in as a backup.

There was also the freebie that got away (for a while) - some useless midfielder called Guardiola who turned down playing for Stuart Pearce - or the other way round.
Guardiola, last I heard of him was that he packed in playing to try his hand at being a Manager.
Does anyone know where he is now and whether he is any good?

Seem to recall we sent Sommeil the other way as part of DVB loan. Pity he got injured as we had the better end of that deal.

Yeah we did. Yeah it was a pity, however he was never going to be our player. Not so long ago DVB said that the biggest error of his career was joining City. However, he said this because he loved life in Marseille. He said that he could of played there for his whole career. He only left because they had financial problems and the chairman thought City would offer them a good deal to help them out, so he was in essence trying to help Marseille. But, he said he also wasn't ready for English football. Regardless, he was fine player to watch, even if it was, just for a few games.
