We had a bull terrier/shih tzu cross. Honest.
I think there are a couple of issue with staffies. Firstly, they are massively represented in rescue centres around the country, which tells you a lot about the sort of people who often own them. That means that you might often be talking about dogs with a history of abuse or neglect, or been encouraged to be aggressive. And secondly, they are a very powerful dog, so if they do attack, they can do a lot more damage than most other dogs. So personally, I'd have misgivings about having a rescue staffie around very young children or babies (although I don't know if I'd have any big dog around them tbh). And I definitely wouldn't buy from a breeder, given that they're already clearly being overbred.They are. I heard that they're bred from the original bulldogs which went out of favour when bull baiting was banned.
Then Potters in Staffordshire took them, and as they had many children, gradually bred the aggression out of them around humans,
so they are very good around kids. May or may not be true, but virtually every Staffie I've known was brilliant around children, very tolerant
when getting ears and tails pulled etc;
Me neither.I wouldn't consider Staffies small Dogs.
