Ignore what de-bummer said it was quite a good film

Well, if you are a Walter Mitty type character and have no real knowledge or understanding of the subject matter, then yes it might appear to be an absolute f-ucking corker....

The Hunt for red October was good but the book is even better. Should have been classified when it first came out. There is stuff in there that we were not allowed to discuss.

Though not DIRECTLY a sequel to Band of Brothers', the same team are making 'PACIFIC' for HBO, which should be finished and ready to air sometime this year. Apparently it follows three marines from basic training right through the Pacific theatre to the Japanese surrender. If it's HALF as good a BoB it'll be worth checking out. Looking forward to this big time.

OP hadn't seen Private Ryan, so that's the obvious one. That and Band of Brothers, just brilliant.

Love war films of course. Guns of Navarone is great, and the sequel Force 10 is really good as well. Where Eagles Dare is also really good. Platoon is great....most of these have already been mentioned.

But I'd start with Private Ryan.

Oh and I just saw Valkyrie yesterday, not really a war film but I absolutely loved it.

Aye. That part of the war just isn't as interesting to me at all, but agreed that if it's half as good as BoB...

Also for a laugh - Heartbreak Ridge with Clint Eastwood is great fun.

Troy
Saving Private Ryan
Gladiator (more of small battles)
Black Hawk Down
Braveheart
Patriot ( seems to be controversial for most Brits)
Rise of the Footsoldier ( I just like the fights in this tbh though it isn't war)
Pearl Harbour ( Few cool moments)
We Were Soldiers
Windtalkers

It's an absolute shit film IMO, I really wouldn't bother with that one.

Oh when you're finished with Band of Brothers I'd say Generation Kill is worth a look. Not really as good, or maybe it's just different, but I really enjoyed it. Reminded me like hell of my military service, even though we were just playing war... :)

i like this one myself lol
