Better street lighting and plain-clothes police in pubs - Johnson’s plan to protect women

why do they need to be undercover police, back in the day beat coppers used to wander into pubs for a quick word with the landlord and nobody batted an eyelid, nowadays it sparks a fuckin riot

I knew the council had decided to switch off street lights but i dont go out at dark , guess why , so i was ok

Late one night i had to rush silva to the vets , i went out to my car in pitch black as i am not on a main road , anyone could be walking past , i shouldnt have to worry about it but i did , because i am a disabled o!der woman who wouldnt have stood a chance

My only thought should have been silva

Turning street lights off was the worst thing to do to save how much money
Apart from light pollution, it's to save money. Tory cuts again.

I really doubt anybody would want to put themselves forward for the undercover role.... hanging around in a pub all night, drinking soft drinks, on your own, not enjoying yourself or socially mixing... of course nobody's going to notice the quite one in the corner will they? Everyone will think he's the threat.

Where are these plain clothes coppers coming from?
I've still a lot of mates in job & you'd be absolutely shocked of how many there really are out on the street.
Your average Tesco will have triple the amount of staff on duty at any point.
Since May completely ruined the emergency services they now cover ever increasing areas & populations. All of who have a mobile phone.
The amount of jobs that I used to have to go to each day, that were actually a police matter, we're at a guess, about 15-20%.
Grown ups arguing about who said what on Facebook or Instagram, mention one key word (and these people know what words to say to the call handler because they are asked whether they think it's relevant at the time) & you can guarantee a copper will be there to speak to you.
In the meantime, Billy Shitbag is prowling the estate in full knowledge he's very unlikely to run into a copper.

This plan will not happen, if it does it will be run on overtime as there are no "extra officers" that you hear about when disgusting incidents like the one that happened to put poor Sarah.
They're taken off other duties. Investing your burglary, taking statements from somebody who's just been assaulted & enforcing more ASB goes into the back burner once again.
The overtime will soon run out so it will be run from other duties. The circle then carries on.
Got to agree with this. More soundbites and initiatives when what's really needed is my police on the streets full stop.

But it in the context you quoted, walking from your front door to your car, it is an irrational fear. No amount of cops can stop that.
How is it irrational? Women are considered an easy target. The disabled are considered an easy target.
My disabled wife was followed home from asdas a couple of years ago by a bloke who'd initially helped her in the supermarket. He popped up when she parked outside our house.
