Betting shops

It's not as easy as that the police can look at your account and see the money you have deposited, won, lost and withdrawn. You cannot put 10k in your betfred account and then withdraw it the same day as clean money. They would be all over you. Where as the slots inside the bookies were not regulated.
Yeah that article I quoted was about the unregulated slots.

On the crack machines put say £500 of your heroin dealing money in. Have a couple of £5.00 spins then cash out. The receipt will say winnings £490 or more if you won on your couple of spins. Happy days your money is no longer from selling deals on the street you won it at the bookies.
This is low level money laundering but Kev or whatever his name is now has a legit reason for having a few hundred quid on him if pulled by the police.
Nearly right, but you had to turn over at least 40% of the amount deposited otherwise an alert was triggered on the back office PC.

I had no idea about that. Is it as described in this report, admittedly old, or is it done differently?

The laundering was a big problem initially in inner cities but more recently in your average suburban towns. It’s a major reason why the maximum bet per spin on the FOBT machines is now £2 from £100, it would obviously take 50 times longer now to “cleanse” illegally gained money. Also, you can’t deposit £500 and play say £10 and cash out, the Staff have a duty to report that kind of activity and stop anyone doing so.

really? like i didn't know, but that's fine.
but like i said, Poker is different, but it's still gambling, just because some have skills it doesn't mean that non-skilled addicted gamblers won't chase the action because at the other end of the spectrum they always will, even in poker, everyone knows that. As long as there is an outlet for any type of gambling it can be destructive, but the question isn't what any jurisdiction thinks it is. you said gambling is for losers, yet do you approve of poker gambling then? Not judging here, as like I said i like a good poker game, but it's gambling.
For most Poker is a bit of fun and if you find your level you won’t win or lose much. However it is a game of skill and go beyond your level and play with better players then you are not gambling you are going to piss your money away, you will be eaten alive!

Professionals know there is an element of luck in each hand or game but they also know over time they will win. The recommended game size is 1 to 2 percent of their bankroll eg if they have a fund of £10k they will play £100 to £200 games, to ensure when they lose they can move on to the next game, percentage plays over time guarantees them a profit.

A friend of mine split with his wife and he started playing £50 buy in tournies online, he’s not that good, he eventually sold his house and lost the lot on Poker.

Like you I love a house game, we generally bet about £30 each over a six hour session, all similar standard and it gets worse as more beer is drank, it’s not gambling really, just recycling money because at the end of the year everyone who plays could either be just a few quid up or down.

So in other words absolutely pointless playing,I see them in a casino I go every now and then, all thinking they are pro's,pot will probably get to £30-40 quid then 2 hours later the winnings are now sat in front of another player on the table, rinse and repeat, pointless, may as well be sat at home with a coupon on watching scores come through, instead of sitting there drinking free tea /coffee.pop for 6 hours to possibly come out a tenner up.

I've lost more running for the bus

If it’s recreational poker and you know your level there’s no problem, as you say, it’s a night out, free drinks etc. And like I said we play a home game for money which I love and the most you can lose is about £30 over an evening.

However, play poker above your level for stakes that are above your means and you are at the very least gambling and at worst just pissing your money away. The pro’s will suss you out quickly and take your cash.

The skilled players at Poker are known as Sharks, non skilled, poor, novice players are fish. There’s a saying “if you can’t spot the fish then it’s probably you”. There’s a reason poker pros exist but there are no pro bingo or roulette players, it’s skill as opposed to luck.

They don't stick £500 in in one go. It goes in dribs and drabs. They may be smack dealers but they are clued up. Why do you think they spend hours on end in the bookies. They do not go in put £500 in and leave with a receipt for £500 five minutes later.

They used to be able to put £500 in and play 5 games at £100 a go, it didn’t take long. Now it’s restricted to £2 a spin. If the game takes around 90 seconds from betting on the last game to the next to launder £500 would take over 6 hours of continuous play.

Drugs dealers laundering money wouldn’t spend all day in the Bookmakers, they’d get their “business” done and if necessary move on to the next shop to do the same. It’s thousands that were being laundered not hundreds, I think you are getting mixed up with the petty criminal lowlife that frequent some shops, not highly organised drug dealers.

Read my original post I said low level street dealers and low level laundering.
At no time did I mention anyone higher up the chain.
Read what I have wrote before telling me I am mixed up. I know how it all works from top to bottom.
