Big Phil Haters

I think you'll find if he wins his flick on he's done his job and its up to the midfielders to make runs off him in support. If they don't he may aswell let the defender win it. I agree he'll be a squad player but that doesn't mean he won't carry on improving, he'll be a starter in the cups and the likelihood of injuries and suspensions means he'll get minutes on the pitch. If we sign 3 better strikers then we can loan him to Burnley or somewhere and he'll still become a good striker. Why do you insist on writing him off after giving the example about Ireland?

Well that all depends on who we bring in during the transfer window. If we add more strikers, which seems likely, then Hughes has a choice to either bench the kid weekly and bring him on for 20 minutes in the odd match, or does he say sorry Felipe you're not going to be playing regularly this year would you like a loan for a season? Can't see him going anywhere, so he's just going to be warming the bench for 09-10 and maybe getting a few starts if our crocks up front continue their trend of getting crocked.

I'm sorry, but his "flick ons" don't count if they shave the top of his head and go nowhere. He jumps about a yard off the ground and in almost every game against quality centre-backs he's completely taken out of the equation. He regularly runs into traffic and his link up play is decent about once a match. He'll be a squad player next year and he hardly makes any real impact when he comes on, so how is he going to develop into this supposed world-class or good striker when he's not playing?

IF we do stick by him then surely you loan him out for experience and chance to develop??
Yes I would loan him let him continue learning the trade strikers seem to go two ways hit the deck running like say Fowler and Owen who then tend to get injured a lot and be a shadow of their former self before the age of 30. Or they are slow burners who learn the ropes and develop into something yes I am gonna do it like Drogba. There is no guarantee Caicedo will be a world beater but given his age and the good things he has shown he fully deserves the chance to continue to be our player long term he could save us a fortune and thats what the owners long term aim is make the club self sufficent

Well if we go 442 next season then Caicedo will be a decent 2nd choice target man, I think if he had a World Class partner or a gifted player like Aguero alongside him he'd develop and we'd have a quality strikeforce on our hands for years to come. We should buy a first choice big man for him to learn off and then take the reigns from in the next season or 2.

Must admit i'm still a bit on the fence with Big Phil, he held the ball up well on Sunday but chose the wrong option on more than one occasion but i put that down to inexperience.
I think Jo will be part of the Lescott deal, Ched will be off, Bellamy injured all the time, Boj needs a run of games so i think the best option for Phil will be to go out on loan considering a main striker coming in.

The difference between now and the start of the season is night and day. It's clear to see. He has a lot of potential imo.

He does sometimes choose the wrong option and sometimes his passing is poor but it's stuff that can be worked on. He has a knack for being in the right place at the right time and you can't teach that. I think with a full season he'd bag about 15 goals all in which isn't bad for what will be a 21 year old. If we got that return from a new striker we'd be pretty happy.
