Big Phil Haters

To be honest, I thought he was awesome yesterday, not just compared to his usual self, awesome full stop. His goals to games ratio is pretty good and then when you look at his age as well, that lad is deffo one for the future.

For me he should have been young player of the year, he was so far out of the picture at the start of the season, but he stuck at it and has put together a pretty good year. Should he start no, should he come close to starting no, but he, in my view is very much a keeper.

Looks like I was right all along ;)

there were about 3 of us out of thousands on here

but loads will come on and say ' i always rated him' but did they fuck they are just sheep

there are only about 3 or 4 members on here who know football, the rest are sheep. fact!

Haha we were definitely in the minority. With every goal he scores my smugness gets a little greater.

I was one of them! Honest! People still feel the need to slag him off at the games though and it's getting abit tedious. I thought he had a cracking game yesterday.at the end of the day there are plenty of strikers without pace who have bagged goals in the pl. Sheringham for example. The thing that I think will make phil a top class striker is his touch and abilty to always get past one player and make space for a shot. For an out and out centre forward with no pace that for me would compensate that. Get him up front with a nippy striker( bellers) and we'll see plenty of goals. Tbh he has the best mentor in Hughes! All the best big phil hope you prove the fickle ones wrong!

I think he deserves to stay far more than Vassell, Benjani, Etuhu, Evans and Sturridge. Saw him play against Toon reserves shortly after signing last season....he looked a few stone overweight and got booked for his 10th dive. The lad has come on tremendously and deserves to be part of the set up next season.

He's the best lone striker at the club by far.

Hold up play and technical ability is very good at times. Seems to have a knack for 6 yard tap ins which is also nice. Maybe not as talented as Sturridge, but he is much better for the team.

He's 20, has 8 goals in 14 starts (9 if you include west brom...which i didn't see much wrong with). Defo Keep him. Be nice to not have to hear the groans everytime he does something wrong.

I remember at the West brom game somebody standing up and shouting 'get that useless pile of shite off NOW'

Not really needed and isn't going to help. We need to get behind him.

Im proud to say that Im one...

I'm a bit confused about him. Sure I saw a quote from one of the players about how skillful Sturridge was, saying that he was up there with Robbie, Elano AND PHIL, so that would imply there's more to come.

His pace is also a tricky one - he looks like he's lumbering around slowly but on two or three occasions now he's had a run with the ball and he's had the pace to go with it. Maybe he needs a few yards to get going (after all 100m sprinters don't look very nimble) or could it be his confidence that he's strong enough to hold people off when they catch him? Most strikers without great pace seem to have one eye on the defender, expecting to get caught, and are thinking of the best moment to stop and cut inside (think just about everyone we've bought for the last couple of years!) but he doesn't seem to think this way.

They say the first yard is in the head, and given his general unaware look (how can he be so oblivious about being offside half the time), he may appear slower because his opponent usually gets the yard start.
