Gary James is spot-on when he flags up the boardroom shuffle which opened the door for Swales as our biggest mistake. Swales made one blunder after another..the worst of which was bringing back Big Mal.

before my time but i have looked into and i understand the basics and it was probably the worst IMO.

i'm planning on reading gary's book soon, the city years, might order it off amazon when i've been paid.

All well and good, but £24m for Adebayor, £18m for RSC and £10m for Bridge on ridiculous contracts says differently. Adding to that, playing Kompany in midfield and almost forcing Hart out of the club, I'd say hiring Hughes-less was a pretty big mistake!

Obviously won't be the biggest mistake, but I too think we should have given Shaun Goater another year. Considering how much less he played than Anelka, he got just over half as many goals in 2002-2003. I know Anelka pretty much carried us goals-wise the year after, but I think that season may have been more relaxing for us if we had Goater's goal contribution there.

At the time, I remember being pretty fucked off that Berkovic left.

You can't blame Hughes for the prices of the players, everyone knew we had millions to spend and hiked up the prices of every player we looked at. Secondly we had to offer big big wages to players and great contract to average player because we were nobodies going know where. It had to start somewhere.

For me the first year was the sheikhs hardest year financially, the image of city couldn't have been much worse. Crippling debts, rogue owner, years of winning fook all, some piss poor journey men and a bunck of successful knob next door.
