It would be hoped that the authorities have plenty of evidence that will stand up in court, because if some of these allegations are dismissed in court it's going to cost the taxpayer a tidy sum

The Director of Public Prosecutions and the Crown Prosecution Service would not recommend pursuing legal proceedings if they didn't consider that there was a substantive case to answer, or a reasonable likelihood of conviction.
Personally I don't care what the costs are to the taxpayer if it means a rapist going to prison.
Some of those accused of murder and terrorism are acquitted, but that doesn't mean we should stop bringing suspects to trial.
It's kinda hard to just bring 100% guilty folk to court - that's why we have trials and juries to ascertain culpability, because sending innocent folk to prison is even worse than allowing guilty folk to go free.

Few years ago I went to a xmas do at Blackpool Football Club. Owen Oyston (owner of BFC and rapist) was there. On his table was Stuart Hall. Thought it was strange that someone in the public eye would associate with a convicted rapist. Did a google search of their names and came up with several companies that Oyston owns and Hall is a director of. One other name that comes up a few times is.......... you guessed it William Roache. I know you are not guilty just by association but makes you think doesn't it?

Hoping against hope here but were Eamon Holmes & James Nesbitt as well?

Well that's 2 out of the 3 guilty as charged, wonder if Mr Roache will make it a hat-trick of Oyston directors.
