I suspect it's ever so slightly out of date, as they didn't show emo kids at the cathedral. That's my abiding memory of Birmingham and I can't take any tourist propaganda which doesn't feature them prominently seriously.

the perception of a city is directly related to it's unemployment, Birmingham was a prosperous and thriving place until the light engineering world imploded, bit like east Manchester with heavy engineering and on a much bigger scale Detroit with the US car industry. Some of the thickest people on the planet hail from this shithole, i ran a telesales office there many moons back, some lad was calling someone in aberdeen and i was asked it was ok to ring the states he really thought it was in the usa, although did meet some real decent people especially smiler who was the manager of legs 11 nightclub/bar and put me on the guest list every night first three beers on the house, like everywhere though good points and bad
