Just been speaking to my lad in the States and we were laughing about a bizarre encounter he had (which I'd forgotten about) not long before he moved over there. He was driving in town, on Trinity Way, and stopped at a red light. He happened to glance over to the car next to him at the lights in which were sat the Dalai Lama and Russell Brand, who had just been doing a public appearance at The Arena.

I was working in London a few years ago (2010) and just after the general election was walking down a little back street in Westminster and went to cross over. As I did, a car came round the corner so I stepped back but the driver stopped and waved me across. I signalled my thanks and only then realised it was David Cameron, on his way to Downing Street to become PM.

Anyone else had a chance encounter like those?

I once saw Ted Heath in a pub near Salisbury and without knowing he was in there, my immediate instinct when I saw him walking towards me was to say "alright Ted", like I'd known him for years. Can't have had more than half a second to react. Not sure where it came from tbh, it really was a blink of the eye thing. He spent the rest of the night eying me up suspiciously.

Walked to Old Trafford from Fallowfield to get a ticket for the Stretford end(Derby the day before the full members cup).

Passing Chester house on my way back and the Queen turned up.

A few years ago I was waiting to cross Deansgate near the junction with Peter Street. As my colleague and I were standing on the pavement, a man I recognised came and stood next to us. I knew that I knew him but couldn't place him. The conversation went something like this:
Me: hi, how's it going?
Man: yeah, good thanks. And you?
Me: great thanks.
As the lights change for us to cross:
Me: better run, I'm already late. See you around.
Man: yeah. Bye.
A few seconds pass.
Colleague: So er, how do you know Gary Speed then?
Me: oh crap. Was that who it was?
Colleague: laughed his head off then told everyone what an arse I'd made of myself.

I'm always bumping into famous people ...

Peter Purves on a train
Michael Foot in Covent Garden and Steve Punt on Harley Street (on the same day)
Paul Shane walking near Hyde Park
Tanni Grey Thompson in Slough Travelodge (yes, really)
Lenny Henry on Blackpool North Pier
Peter Kay at Bolton train station

A-list celebrities, the lot of them.
