Blackburn Vs City Post Match Reaction Thread

We looked fucking shite... how people can be pleased with that peformance is beyond me. First 10-15 mins we were rocking and then we were struggling to get out our own half.

Its Blackburn for fucks sakes.... not fucking madrid.
Blackburn are difficult to play at their place, and played a lot of long balls and spent most of the time trying to win free kicks. They concentrated om stopping us playing

You should go to a few games. Might learn something

Anyway, I'll take a breather from the Munich slagging session to say what a big big win tonight. Extremely frustrating for a lot of it, especially in the second half when we were hoofing it up the pitch without a target man. Dzeko has got to play if you're going to play long ball. I also thought we weren't set up for Balotelli's game either. If we're playing him as main striker we need to be breaking fast and playing through-balls and balls over the top off the shoulder of defenders. Both Yaya and Silva are well suited to this and so the obvious problem was the speed we broke at - extremely pedestrian. If we're relying on Balotelli next season we need some more speed and creativity in that midfield and we need Hart to get the ball out faster (something which he does much better for England and makes me wonder whether this is a Mancini order - hope not).

Great first 20 minutes, but we didn't capitalise on it and from then on, I was quite worried they were going to get something, maybe even a win in the second half, and, we'd be very frustrated with ourselves for dropping points in a key game and missing a great opportunity. Fair play to Blackburn, they stuck at it and made it harder for us, rather than us just slacking off casually.

Well done to Mancini for that substitution, didn't think bringing Johnson off was a good idea at the time as he looked like he might be able to cause a threat, but it worked and a good finish from Dzeko, didn't have a lot of the goal to aim at, but struck it very well. Made the change at the right time as well, it was clear it wasn't working and something needed to be done to try and get City going forward again, as Blackburn's control of the second half was increasing.

We got fortunate with the first penalty shout, Kompany was quite lucky there. Had we gone 1-0 down, I'm not sure we would have come back with our recent away form. Second penalty call late in the game was ridiculous, how anybody could ever say that is a penalty, I don't know. Absolute minimum contact.

Man of the match would be a difficult one, I thought Silva was quality, looked great on the ball as usual, unlucky not to score and always looked as if he'd make something happen. Had that bit of extra quality nobody else on the pitch really did. Kompany was very solid at the back, apart from the penalty claim incedent. Other than that he looked very strong. De Jong also played an important role.
I'd say Barry was our least good player, he wasn't awful, and he looked quite decent during the first 20 minutes, but as the performance of the team got worse, he dropped more than everybody else. Looked quite vulnerable.

Did we deserve it? Maybe a draw would have been a fair result. Blackburn maybe didn't quite do enough to win the game, but considering they were well in the game for long periods, maybe they will feel defeat was a bit harsh on them. Then again, we took a chance, they didn't, and, thats whats key to winning games and achieving things. Well done City!

Crucial win indeed. 4 points clear, could and hopefully will be 7 by the weekend (or at least 6, we really should be beating West Ham no excuses, and I don't think Tottenham will get anything more than a point at Chelsea). Doesn't quite seal 4th place by any means, but takes a key step. Point wouldn't have been a disaster, but a win is very big indeed. Ugly win, but a win!!

Thought we were going to bury them in the first 20 mins. Second half was mainly dire, passing was awful but NDJ and the defence did well, by and large. Great to see Dzeko score and thought that Phil Jones who plays for Blackburn looked quality. I wouldn't mind us signing him in the summer!
Blackburn's midfield pushed up on our back 4 to prevent us building possession up from the back so Joe Hart had to keep kicking it, and they kept winning the headers.

Great start as you say, but we edged the game. Only way Blackburn were going to score was from a free-kick.

Was a bit worried we picked up 3 yellows. thought someone might get sent off.

Wasn't a great game, but Blackburn didn't throw men forward. They did not throw any numbers forward. They went back to Allardyce long ball game

To be quite honest that was some of the worst football I've seen us play this season. As people have said, started brightly, but if we don't get that early goal we seem to go off the boil a little too easily. It's not just a caveat of ours, most of the top teams do it. United are huge proponents of all out attack and hoping the opposition crumble within the first 20 minutes.

However, in the past when it hasn't gone out way, we've conceeded a draw or even worse, a stupid 1-0 loss. Tonight the lads dug in and we ground out a win. We've done it a couple of times now and it's really these results that decide places and titles. So the manner of the win was pretty terrible, but it was a win, which is what will be remembered in the books, and what ultimately counts. Good to see there's a bit of character building within the squad.

1st 20 mins was as good as I have seen us play for a while.

After that we lost control. Blackburn's approach was difficult to deal with. They trie to win free-kicks around the box by targeting long ball's on to our full-backs and in open play theyh didn't throw many men forward. They set out to destroy our game, and win a succession of free-kicks. Only Silva seemed able to escape their stranlehold on the game in the 2nd half. Could have done with Yaya controlling that 1on 1 and wrapping it up

Hands up on here who hasn't ever sung a song with a munich reference in it ?

I'm middle aged now but when I was a young man I used to belt out Munich songs with the best of 'em not because I gloried in a tragic plane crash but because it annoyed the rags and like many youngsters I had no real appreciation of death.

Older and wiser, I wouldn't dream of singing such songs now but that doesn't mean that exuberant drunk young men in a boisterous mood should be condemned as classless just for a throwaway reference to a distant tragedy.

People used to call black men "niggers" is that acceptable

If Silva's shot was two inches lower it could have been an exhibition. But it didn't, and the nerves were jangling long before half time.

That's half the reason why it looked messy.

The other half was out of our hands.

Blackburn's football was pre-industrial. Men banging on rocks with other rocks.

And the ref decided it would be fun to see which side would cope better under MMA rules. Then he realised, he wasn't having any effect on the result one way or the other, so he started penalising us and whilst still letting Blackburn run riot. Not exactly a recipe for Joga Bonito, but apparently letting the underdog rake studs down the new boy's thighs is exactly what makes the premiership 'the best league in the world'.
