Blackpool fan dies after trouble at Burnley match

Didn’t the Blackpool lot turn up at the “Manchester” which is designated for the away fans ?
A lot of speculation flying around about this. The Manchester is definitely a designated away pub before the match but I'm not sure about after the game. The attack was around 7pm.

I was in Blackpool, in fact just leaving and driving past The Manchester as the Police had turned up in numbers.

We wondered what had happened, thought it might have been a mass brawl as Manchester is away fans usually. We'd seen a lot of Burnleh fans walking down the Promenade just before chanting etc.

So sad to hear someone has passed away, this should never happen. RIP fellow football fan.

Brings us all down to earth with a resounding bump. I've been gloating over the vermin being destroyed (shame about the actual 'destroyers', wish to fuck it had been us) but then you read something like this and suddenly you feel all deflated and melancholy, because someone's brother/son/father/husband etc lost their life at a game.

The man's family will be going through an absolute hell-on-earth period now, tormented beyond endurance - deepest condolences to whoever his family are, they did not deserve this.

Burnley fan in peace. I am a Claret who lives on the Fylde Coast and when I woke up to the news yesterday I was absolutely sickened. No fan should go to a game and not come home. My thoughts are with his family as is the case for the majority of Burnley fans. I went to the game and the atmosphere felt really heavy even before the game. There were groups of Burnley fans and Blackpool fans out looking for trouble all acting the hardmen after sipping their Dutch Courage and sniffing their Columbian marching powder.
Regarding the tragic incident it appears from the Lancashire Police report and social media accounts that a small group of Blackpool fans went to The Manchester a designated away pub and ended up fighting with Burnley fans.
Was the deceased even part of this group or is the account of the event which seems to be reported by numerous sources even true? I don't know the answer to those questions. All I know is that he was sadly assaulted and died.
Hopefully this will wake up all those 'hard men' from whatever club they claim to follow to the reality that acting like this can have severe consequences.
RIP Tony Johnstone

I live in lancs, and whilst not pointing any fingers (maybe I am) Blackpool police have no grip on how to deal with match going supporters in the town, they’re a disgrace. Some might say what can they do when two groups of dick heads want a pop at each other? I’ve witnessed extreme kettling, coppers standing by while a bus load of kids from a junior football team are attacked, funnelling away supporters down an alley into an ambush and lots more. They need to take a leaf out of Preston police, who engage with supporters prior to the match, put transport on from the train station, give clear guidance & escorts to the ground & drinking establishments & very rarely encounter trouble

This is exactly the kind of incident that causes years and years of bad blood between the fans - Blackpool v Burnley games will be a real hate fixture from now on, if it wasn't already.
It happened with the rags and Palace, a Palace fan got stabbed around the time of the semi finals in 1995. That was also the replay where Keane stomped on Southgate, the ****. There was a lot of bad blood between them because of Cantona, rags blamed Palace for getting him banned and took it out on their fans.

Staggering that this goes on amongst grown men for gods sake. Be it part of it or an innocent bystander, the result this time is loss of life. Over football.

Read he sustained head injuries in brawl between the two sets of fans, though not confirmed.

Pointless. RIP.
