Hand the phone in to the police, its obviously stolen and you are breaking the law by having it in your possession.
its not stolen
it was left in an office and the person in the office didnt know whos it was so he waited for someone to return or ring to to claim it. dont ask why he didnt take it to the police as i dont know.
but i presume he thought someone would at least ring but no one did thats why i think its blocked.
Ask ur mate can he find me an I pad and il hand it in for him nice one fella,.

With respect.......bullshit.

It isn't yours and it isn't your mates so hand it in so it can possibly be returned to its rightful owner.
with respect fuck off
its not bullshit
the conversation arose about iphones and he said he had one in his office from november that no one has collected.
why the fuck would i post on here if i had stolen an iphone?
also , what point would it be handing it in if it is worthless now?

Putting aside any ethical questions raised, the answer to the OP is that the IMEI number can be changed. This means the phone wouldn't come up as being registered on the blacklist when it connected to a network. Although it's illegal to change an IMEI number there are plenty of less scrupulous mobile phone shops that would carry it out.

cheers banjo
so if the IMEI has been blocked is there any point in handing it in as the original owner must have blocked it straight away without even ringing it for some reason....???? surley somone would have tried to ring him before the battrey went dead?

Hand it in.

For the phone not to be located when reported stolen or lost it would need to have been switched off until blocked. After this whenever it tries to connect to a network it's position is known. The only way to use this phone is to have it illegally zapped to change the IMEI number.

If you want an iPhone, buy an iPhone.

You can turn that find a phone feature off. If someone lost there phone, most likely they just claimed it off the insurance in fact I know a few who turned it off so there phoned wouldn't be located for insurance.

Because it doesn't belong to you or your mate.

You can turn "find my phone" off but the phone network can track the IMEI number from cell to cell. If "they" want to know where the phone is "they" can until the IMEI is changed.

Unless it's a very important person's phone I dont think 'they' could give a toss where it is. We all know 'they' can find it but as it's been lost since November I think its safe to say 'they' aren't looking for it very hard
