I have just sent a letter to the mirrors sports editor and comprises of the following section of text:
I would like to make my feelings known about an article written by Ian Winwood which I read on your website this morning. I am absolutely disgusted by the remarks of your jounalist who feels that it okay to slag off Man City and hope they get relegated as they are ruining football??
After all the years of being in the bottom half of the table getting relegated and promoted between the premiership (aka the old first division), the first divison and even the second division and after the number of managers we've had without even a cup final since the 80's, how can you feel justified in printing an article hoping that they get relegated, just because someone with money has decided to buy them and maybe one day bring success to a club which has long lived in the shadows of their rivals.
Sure there has been talk of buying the worlds biggest players and paying astromical wages, but surely the wages of £100,000+ a week were already being paid by the big 4 clubs long before city had any money. Back then man city could not afford to keep up with the big four in terms of wages, players or success, but yet there was no article printed saying they were ruining football and should get relegated.
Just as your article says money does not buy success and if you ask any city supporter I am sure they will say the same thing. But what money does is give you the chance to compete with the big four clubs, to be able to buy players which will allow you to complete with the big four and also give you the money to pay wages to complete with the big four. But god forbid that there should be any club who could one day challenge the positions of the likes of Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.
If you look at man city at the moment, they are 3rd from bottom, we have a manager who is failing to inspire confidence and believe in his team that they can win a game, the fans are getting annoyed that we cannot win a match even against the bottom club (no disrespect to west brom), yet your reporter feels that we should be slagged off for ruining football and get relegated?? Who in there right mind would even want to come to man city regardless of however much money is on offer??
Would the same article have been printed if the arabs had decided to buy Liverpool or Man United off the glaziers and promised to bring the worlds best players to them and pay extortionate wages to them?
I doubt it very much.
