Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 27 - Out on blue 6 - Gone Too Soon (pg 438)

We're in the "listening week" now where we don't usually update the playlist.

For the last few weeks, we've been using the first week of the playlist to build it and then the second week listening - otherwise we'd have even bigger playlists and we wouldn't be able to keep up!
Oops!

Apologies....typical bloke, not reading instructions first!

I've heard most of it as it came in, but this week will be for going through this mammoth playlist (ironic as I was going to finish off with Wooly Mammoth by Local Natives).
One of the best songs on Hummingbird (an album, not a song, and a reference from Columbia), so well done!

(I did say "one of" - and yes, I love Ceilings too, but there's a theme to adhere to)

The Big Winner

"Kingfisher" - Bert Jansch and Marin Jenkins

A name I've heard before but never listened to his music. I always assumed he was some American or German jazz guitarist (for some reason). On the back of this outstanding track, I listened to all of the Avocet album, which I enjoyed immensely

Best of the list that I hadn't previously heard:-

"Dog's Got a Bone" - The Beta Band. After their recent appearance on a playlist, I also enjoyed this track.
"How to be a Werewolf" - Mogwai - a pleasant instrumental
"Moorhen" - Lau - Nice bit of folk
"Porcupine" - Echo & The Bunnymen - Quite melodious for an 80s UK indie band
"Bluebird" - Buffalo Springfield - love the acoustic playing on this.
"Butterfly" - Susan Tedeschi
"The Dragonfly Queen" - And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

Tracks I knew but enjoyed listening to again:-

"Albatross" - Fleetwood Mac - For some reason, I had the urge to buy a luxury chocolate pudding from M & S after hearing this.
"Werewolves of London" - Warren Zevon
"Elephant" - Jason Isbell - One of the standout tracks from an album we've already reviewed on the Album Club thread
"Disturbance at the Heron House" - R.E.M.
"Monkey Dead" - Sunhouse - Another great track from another album we've already reviewed on the Album Club thread

I also enjoyed:-

The two Jethro Tull tracks, the two Ted Nugent tracks, the two Pink Floyd tracks
"Land: Horses" - Patti Smith
"The Fish" - Yes
"Bears" - Lyle Lovett
"There's a Wolf" - Silences
"How Come My Dog Don't Bark" - Dr.John
"Cats in the Cradle" - Harry Chapin - I never realised the Ugly Kid Joe version was a cover
"Butterfly" - The Pale
"Dolphins Make Me Cry" - Martyn Joseph

Interesting that four out of your top five there are Scottish artists Rob. Just saying mate.

To @Mancitydoogle and @Coatigan

I have an idea for a theme and am happy to take on Episode 5 after @OB1.

I have identified 5 songs for the theme and I suspect that there will plenty of tracks for contributors to add.

Nice. You take it after OB's fortnight then.

In case of availability issues or no-shows, the next person i.e you would step in earlier, just fyi. But OB1 is usually reliable so wouldn't expect that.

True. As Del Amitri and Kevin McDermott are among a small selection of relatively modern artists that I like, I think Scotland must punch above its weight in that regard.

It must be noted that the three best tracks in the playlist are Americans (Warren Zevon, Jason Isbell and REM).
