Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 28 - Coatigan - Instrumentals (pg 444)

Really thought I might enjoy this playlist once I finally got a chance to sit and listen……
But unfortunately I must say, it’s not something I would be likely to put on even as background music.

There’s a lot of stuff I recognise and a few isolated highlights, but for the most part I found myself skipping forward on movie music that really needs the movie.

Notable exceptions are The Chase. An absolutely fabulous piece of music that was perfect for the scene in an absolutely fabulous movie, but always stood on its own as a classic.
Similarly, Gabriel’s Oboe is sublime and stands on its own too.
I thought the Enio Morriconi piece at the start was a good opening although not what I would regard as his best pick, but it went rapidly into skip forward mode after that.

Windmills of his mind, surprisingly came back to me with happy memories of the time. Man from Le Mancha, I think? Correct me if I’m wrong.

I’m rushing this, but there were good tunes I’m probably missing, however I can’t see myself turning to this playlist again.

Just over an hour left to add my final one, was going to go with Lawrence of Arabia as it seems wrong we've not had any Maurice Jarre but JM's dad never starred in any of the films he scored and so I'm going for...

Ryuichi Sakamoto - Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence.

Edit: just read back up to see Bimbo has already done Sakamoto. So let's switch to..

Maurice Jarre - Lawrence of Arabia
