Blue Moon Top 100 Bands Artists - Full List of Artists (pg 287)

It’s not just the hit song. It’s that video. I hate hate hate HATE that video. Denim overalls with no shirt will always be the worst possible look for a male of the human race (save a Utd kit). Add to that being unshowered for two weeks and lip-syncing an awful, annoying, cloying, terrible song and I think we have a contender for the worst art ever created.

Can't think of one that I have disliked more. Simply Red are more a case of just ignore.

Er, ok, so here goes … Radiohead, REM, Wham, Rage Against The Machine, The Carpenters, Nirvana, ELP, The Wedding Present, Take That.
Just a few of the bands that given the choice I’d choose to listen to a lot less than The Alarm. All ‘worse than The Alarm’ for my tastes.
But I’d still expect all of them to be higher in any general music poll, cos they are all better at what they do than The ‘kin’ Alarm.

actually maybe I’ll draw the line at that Brassneck bunch)
Just to check, you did spot that it is The Stone Roses at #7?

The Alarm were picked as a wind-up for the reasons I explained in a post earlier today, but I have to say I am genuinely shocked at the dislike for them. They are a fantastic band by any measure, Mike Peters is a great songwriter and they have an authenticity that few can match.

I’d never heard the non-Setting Sons version! And wouldn’t you know — it sounds great too. Along with “In The City”, my favo(u)rite of theirs. I knew Weller wrote the last lyric; I didn’t know it was Buckler’s idea to do the strings. Thanks for posting.
The strings version was added to the Setting Sons album because they were short of material. Polydor wanted the album released in time for the Christmas market and the band had only a handful of songs ready so they added the strings version of Smithers Jones and a pointless cover of Martha and The Vandellas Heatwave to the album. Even with these additions the album only clocked in at 32 minutes. Strange to add these two tracks when they could've added Strange Town, The Butterfly Collector and When You're young. All from 1979 and more than worthy to have made it to the album.

The first album was very good and even an old crusty like me likes it. The second not so much. I can understand why it and they score highly in a Manchester poll for mancunians treasured artists.
