Bluemoon Angling Thread

Yeah, I am just south of Edinburgh. The Tweed is the closest major salmon river although the Ettrick and the Blackadder and the Whittader all have runs. The Tyne that runs through Haddington and joins the sea just west of Dunbar has a sea trout run as well I believe. The Clyde is 45 minutes away. I pass it every time on the way down to the Etihad and there is always two or three out bugging for Grayling. I think we pass the Annan on the way down too. I’m sure I would be more keen on the salmon if I had had success the two or three times I tried it. The lack of fish and the discipline required on some of the beats coupled with costs put me off a bit. Some of my mates love it despite the difficulties. I quite like match type fishing where you need to concentrate all day. The Scottish National has been cancelled this year though so hopefully we will be able to get out in a month or so for some club outings. Have a great weekend mate.

I am on the Annan back end of the season for a week (hopefully) if you fancy a day mate. I had 4 last year. Good chance with the right water.
I have fished the Till for sea trout and blanked on the Teviot... three times!

I just might take you up on that. Hopefully the fisheries will be open by then. Thanks for the invite. Haven't fished the Till but have heard good things about it. Fished the Teviot for Grayling once and....blanked!

Try the Ford and Etall estate water for the Till mate. Upper Tindal is nice fly water.

Don't know if it has been mentioned on here but the "When we fish again" report is sojnd common sense and the fact that people within the sport have got their act together on our behalf bodes well.

I'm getting a bit stir crazy now.

It's like the close season was when close season meant exactly that, no fishing.

So far this year the Crappie have been rather elusive on the lake near us..but here's a nice one I caught the other day..

Blimey. Been a member for more years than I care to remember, and never new there was an angling thread. Been fishing all my life, and first went to Ireland in 1979! Don't get out as much these days due to work and family pressures. Question to all.. I have a 7 night fishing holiday booked commencing Friday 22nd May. Only one lodge on this part of the site. One bedroom that sleeps 2 (me and the missus), private lake that only I can fish (one swim from the balcony on the lodge). What are my chances of this being allowed? Cheers.

Interesting question. We have a similar problem in that 5 of us have booked a house and an accompanying stretch of the Wye from 15th to 20th June. We're all desperate for it to go ahead so we've been discussing strategy.

First port of call is the operator of the accomodation. If they won't play ball we're buggered. I'd imagine you'll stand a better chance with only 2 of you.

Assuming they're okay, the next obstacle is the phases under which the lockdown restrictions are lifted. There are a number of variations knocking about which are all pretty similar. We'll, hopefully, find out on Sunday. If the leaks are right, it looks like, from 18th May, we'll be able to go fishing but still need social distancing and, possibly, only within a certain distance from your home. Some suggestions are 5k, increasing to 70k in late May, but it's very vague. For what it's worth, if the accommodation are up for it, we're minded to chance it (and the wrath of law-abiding citizens).

Have this strange feeling by the time we are allowed to fish, all the bigger carp will have been lifted and ended up on someone's plate !!

I know a fishery manager who has got members of the syndicate camping out protecting the fishery because of problems. He claims that they aren't fishing (as I would have tried to do) because the landowner has forbidden it and does random checks.

Can’t see Scotland moving at the same pace. I will need a 70k limit as well, Coldingham is about 45 miles, Menteith 55 miles. If I tie any more bloody flies I will be able to start my own on line business.

Fishing allowed from Wednesday. Johnson’s government have been consistent in making the wrong move at the wrong time, so I suspect that today’s moves will cause a second peak, but I’m too selfish. I’ll be out there on Wednesday, lure fishing. I’ll let the rush calm down and then I’m getting my bivvy out and doing a few days carp fishing, maybe next week.
