So opening day yesterday. A cold one with a wind so strong we were blown off the loch for a couple of hours. The wind had churned the water over the last few weeks with a result that visibility was around 1m rather than the usual 3 or 4. That’s my excuse anyway as opening day normally results in double figure catches. Some managed that, mainly those on the Bank that fished the margins. It was tougher for the boats and I finished with seven and my boat partner blanked.
The overall impression though was one of sadness at the damage inflicted on this beautiful place by storm Arwen. Mature trees snapped like matchsticks. It will take decades to recover its former glory and gave the owners a great deal of extra work fishing huge trees out of the loch. The owners car was written off by a tree seconds before he intended to move it. The home they built overlooking the loch was surrounded by mature trees, now all destroyed.
Back there next week, hopefully conditions a little kinder.
