I am coaching at a local stillwater fly fishery, but the Angling Trust badge is multi discipline.
Come and 'chuck some fluff' next time you are blanking on the Wye! :)

Could have done with you around before I went to Alphonse and Providence. I was driving up to Stafford for lessons, probably the same distance as down to your neck of the woods. Couldn't master the double haul and still got an ear-bashing from the guides for "pushing it" when I got nervous casting at a GT.

Off to Rutland at the weekend and may well be doing more fly fishing as I get older so don't be surprised if I do pm you for lessons. I expect a (slight) discount for being a blue !

You could probably teach me loads in all honesty mate!
I show guests double haul by breaking it down 'military style'.
90% have never picked up a fly rod though, and the majority so far are guys in their 70s and 80s, so it's really the basics.
Never too late to learn!

Rutland was hard going on Monday and Tuesday. Not bad conditions but there had been a high-level match the day before and the fish had been hammered. Saw plenty, even right under the boat but they weren't having it. They were preoccupied with shrimp and snails and would come around for a sniff but wouldn't take.

Highlight was a sudden explosion right in front of us, like a shark attacking a shoal of fish. My mate reacted before I did and caught himself a 6.5lbs brownie. I only managed one fish on each day, but plenty of action to keep us interested.

On the coarse front, I went to my local water at the back end of August but it was so low and stagnant I turned straight round and went home. I've come back today, expecting it to be better but it's still low and I haven’t had a bite. Just sitting under my umbrella contemplating packing in and going home.

That seems to be the norm at Rutland these days. Water gin clear and fish hard going. We will be giving it a miss next season and probably visiting either Clywdog or Draycote.
We have our annual match vs Barclays Bank over three days next week on Menteith. It will be the 48th consecutive match.
 
Crazy warm weather this year got me back on the snake today, most years at this time I wouldn’t go near it with a boat. Caught a beautiful cutthroat, couple of small rainbows and a white fish. Lots os swans and Bald Eagles
 
Does anyone know how much an octoplus strong box is worth these days?
Been sorting my gear out and thinking of selling it as it doesn't get used but there is none on eBay or marketplace to compare it to?

Mon the octopai. They're more intellligent than half the ****'s on this forum. And they're the brainy ones.

Octoplus stopped trading in 2021 and parts are increasingly hard to come by but can be obtained through ebay. I'm not sure how much someone would pay for the strongbox but Octoplus was good gear and I still use it with my seatbox so reckon somebody would probably pay decent money for it on Ebay. They were around £160 new.
 
Been wild weather but I've been out and about. Had 2 consecutive days of blanks on stillwaters in Shropshire and Cheshire on Sunday and Monday, respectively, but a visit to the Avon on Tuesday (during Storm Chandra) brought me two small roach and a 6lbs 6ozs chub, a personal best. On this occasion, Fortune really did favour the brave.
