Then you are extremely naive. A party can win an election with less votes than another. It's actually happened in the past. The party that wins an election is the party than wins the marginals and swing voters, without exception.

When?

And one reason why the Liberals/Lib Dems always supported Proportional Representation. The seats they gained didn't actually represent the votes they received.

Correct. I'd like a mixed system like Germany's.

You are just showing your ignorance of this country's electoral system. The benefit (under) class do not decide marginal seats and are not swing voters. Anyone using this logic simply doesn't know what they're talking about.

Simple logic would suggest that if they are created and/or located within these marginal seats then they could help swing it their Labours way.

No. I'm trying to find a loophole through which i might escape from a debate on the electoral system.

As you can see, as far as i was aware a vote was a vote, and now everything has changed. This means me reviewing my beliefs and thoughts on politics to try and assuage the cognitive dissonance which I am currently experiencing.

Anyway, like i said, i'll get back to you with trivia on the said elections.

Yes, but FACT, says they are not. Marginal constituencies are mostly affluent working class/lower-middle class areas. That is why Labour has abandoned its former left-wing ideals to appeal to these voters who decide the election. Left-wing ideals could not win them elections because the marginals wouldn't bite, Tony Blair and the 'third-way' 'Thatcherism with a smiling face' ilk would.

-- Wed Mar 24, 2010 7:02 pm --

Anyways, I'm off to the match now. And this thread shows exactly why Blair/Brown/Blunkett/the eyebrow bloke can get away with whatever they want, because they know that they can just say the words "working class" and all you lot will vote for em again.

Clause IV

To secure for the workers by hand or by brain the full fruits of their industry and the most equitable distribution thereof that may be possible upon the basis of the common ownership of the means of production, distribution and exchange, and the best obtainable system of popular administration and control of each industry or service.

Killed by Blair and New Labour...supported by the "working class" !?!?!?

I'm in on the basis that I will never ever ever vote for Tory.

As someoe said on here a few weeks back "A bad Labour government is better than any Tory government.

First time voters beware: If you vote tory you will burn in hell.

This government has ruined this country. How someone can defend them is beyond a joke. All this "I am working class so I vote labour" what a load of bollocks.

How fuckin naive you are Kev,i worked in various industries throughout my working life, the ones where the workforce where to scared/stupid to get themselves organised behind a trade union, they where the shitty sweatshops with staff being sacked on a whim. When you join an organised workforce you have agreements/pay/conditions/health and safety,,...they dont pay into the labour coffers for nothing you fool. If you went to any branch meeting anywhere in the country and stood up and said " lets pay into the tory pot, because there the party where we'll get a much better deal" you'd be laughed at from the fuckin rooftops.

I will never vote Tory but nor will I ever vote for a Labour party that is no more left-wing than a Tory party. The Tory party and the Labour party no longer represent the working class' and for that reason only none of them will get my vote.

I would vote labour but a tactical vote is required from me to stop a tory getting in so I'll be going Lib Dem.

I don't understand how people can be so willing to condemn Blair yet jump behind Cameron, I've yet to hear him have a political discussion in PM's questions, it's all about cheap point scoring to rouse a cheer from his idiot back-benchers.

"A bad Labour government is better than any Tory government" Who said that? Peter Mandelson? We are not far from burning in hell now though, and I've always voted Labour. The country is fooked, and we are going to hell in a hand cart. Its time for a change people, although I have no confidence in any of them to be honest.

I think the whole political system needs a radical overhaul - George Osborne, the man who would be Chancellor, has a degree in history and wanted to be a journalist. He has no formal financial experience! How will he do a better job than the present incompetent incumbents handling our money???

I think we need specialised people in these highly important roles - people from our world - the business world - the REAL world. Maybe someone with financial experience at the top level for chancellor, a high ranking executive in the Health Service for Health Secretary, instead of Andy Burnham, a man who has been shuffled more times than a pack of cards, etc etc

These admittedly elected people have no experience of the REAL WORLD of the positions they hold! How insane is that!

Fanciful I know, but none of the parties will get us out of the shit we are in under the present self serving, self indulgent system.

Now I'm depressed.
