Bluemoon labour thread.

all i need to say is hazel fucking blears!!!!

What a dick! she's obviously a greedy capitalist! Fuck her and labour!

What is sad is that if labour put a donkey or monkey up for election in salford and gave them a red rosette they would walk in!! Embarassing to say the least!

people vote labour for many reasons. most are embarassing!

Well I'm standing, so if you live in Prestwich you can vote for me and hopefully we can kick the Tories out of Bury Council.

If you get voted in can you please do something to get rid of that Bury in Bloom crap? I like flowers and colour with the best of them, but they are obsessed! It's almost as if that award is the be all and end all.

"Let's close down a few old peoples homes and plant another sixty thousand tulips. That'll keep them happy when we win that award again."

Couldn't agree more and have used this as an example to illustrate similar points to your own on more than one occasion.

Should be the icing on the cake, not - as you say - the be all and and all.

-- Fri Mar 26, 2010 12:31 am --

St Mary's - Labour natch.

Good luck.
Housing issues are very big in that ward I would imagine, especially extensions and affordability due to larger than average household sizes. I think you will need the Orthodox Jewish community onside there, Interlink would be a good allies, but I assume you know this.

Thanks but the biggest issues I've come across in Bury in general rather than here are pretty much the same TBH:

Nationally:
Wars in Iraq/Afghanistan
Immigration
Benefits
Gordon Brown

Locally:
Crime
NHS
Public transport
Parking

to be fair, the party you vote for should be the party who will help your family out the most.

I am a self employed married parent whose business has done ok. The Tories said they are reducing corporation tax by 2% amongst other things that directly help my family, so I will vote for them.

I don't begrudge a student or an immigrant voting liberal, even if I don't agree with them.

I was just on about St Marys as the posher extension of Kersal Ward over the border just to the south of you.

the labour party can't make their minds up, last year they were saying they were going to spend the way out of the recession, whilst having a go at the torries for planning major cuts, guess what? no they are going to cut, potentially bigger than the Thatcher years. Deary me

Issues are the same there as everywhere else; it's surprising really, but everyone really does have the same hopes and fears.

I think cuts are delayed for a year to allow recovery. Are we still in a recession or did we had growth recently? I think we are in a recovery thanks to Brown and Darling.

Vote for this fella at your peril !

In a General Election I have always believed that you should vote for the party that you think will be best for the country.

Agreed.

The one thing i can't understand in politics and i refuse to vote is if my local area is goverend by a Tory, he's a decent bloke, works hard and is likeable and the labour one is a twat. Yet the leader of the Tory party is an even bigger twat and the labour one is a decent bloke, works hard and is likeable.

Why can't i vote for both? My vote in the above sceniro would be to vote for one twat.

But the issue is that, unfortunately, none of them are, so why not use terryphelan's logic?

I'm not. I have already said I am not voting.

However, when I do feel that a party really CAN make a difference for the better they will have my vote.

The German system does give you that option. The German electoral system gives you two votes, one for an individual at the local level, and one at the national level for a party. I'd have the German model in a heartbeat. Much better than ours.

I didn't know that- as things stand I too think that would be a vast improvement on the current system.

I've got no problem getting rid of the monarchy but it's quite possible to change an electoral system without getting rid of them.

Germany has a president, Chancellor (like our PM) and is split up into states.
