6) The Fountain (2006)
7) Metropolis (1927)
8) White Heat (1949)
9) Aliens I (1986)
10) Blade (1998)

17) Beasts of No Nation (2015)
18) Frankenstein (1931)
19) Angels with Dirty Faces (1938)
20) The Incredible Shrinking Man (1954)
I chose films that made me think and were different from the norm.
"Rope" was number one as when I was a child, first seeing it, I knew there was something different about the storyline. Something was permeating through the words and the actions; something unsaid. I was riveted even when not fully understanding. I think it was the first film I ever sat through, by myself, absorbing whatever I could.
The second time I saw it, I was a bit more savvy about the world connecting the dots, but it didn't dilute the experience and just made me admire the mastery of direction from Hitchcock.
I'd like to hear why others chose their number one after the final, if you want. I said mine as I knew it would come nowhere near the pop culture list.
Glad you had "Rope" too. I think it's, er, criminally overlooked as a prominent Hitchcock masterpiece deally with a societal taboo subject at the time. LOL! I could rave about it all day!Mine were

To be honest I based it on, if they were on telly would I turn them off or watch them and what is front of the shelf of my DVD collection as they are rewatched the most when nowt in.
The order was not really set and I changed it several times before sending it.
In fact this was am altered list from what I sent because I forgot one .
Ultimately I took out the following which went in a first few drafts at different times
A bittersweet life
Sympathy for lady vengance
Premonition (J-horror)
A chinese ghost story
New dragon gate inn.
Badlands
Infernal affairs
Rope
rear window
The andromeda strain
The Hill
Django (original)
All were in my 20 at one point
In fact looking back I could easily put them all in and take out others.
Only top 5 were in each 20 I considered so that is why they are there and in the order I would choose them if I was gonna watch one

I had Gregory's Girl. And Carry On Camping.....I will post my list after the no1 has been revealed.
Somehow forgot to put in Dirty Harry movie.
Apart from that I could not think of others I forgot about.
Westerns make up a lot of my list.
Sad that my British movies not on list lnclude.
Quadrophenia,Scum,The Long Good Friday and Gregory's Girl.

I did consider "Infernal Affairs" but other film influences backed it out of my top 20, amazingly! "The Departed" is shit in comparison, imo. Lacked all of the nuances. Never heard of "New Dragon Gate Inn", so will check that out. I'm 50/50 on "A Bittersweet Life", so I will have to look that over too.
Cheers, bud, for some new offerings!
