Bluemoon's Official Top 100 TV Shows

5 whole shows revealed today? Ambassador, you're spoiling us! Thought we'd be one a day for the top 20.

I had Twin Peaks at #14. Brilliant show and something totally different when it was first broadcast. It was the year I started work, and I remember there was lots of discussion around what had happened in last nights episode. Ahhhh, pre-streaming days!

8 of the top 10 I predicted are still in the running and I also think I know what 4 of the others will be.

Top 10 will be one a day

Twin Peaks. There goes the third of my top 3. They are the 3 that stand head and shoulders over everything else Ive seen.
The X Files defined my teens. Twin Peaks (season 1) my 20's and True Detective (season1) my 30's. Glad to see that they are much loved by fellow mooners.

Interesting, given that Twin peaks came before The X-Files!

Meant to say in the books thread, but probably worth a mention here - author Blake Crouch wrote a trilogy of books that was made into a TV series starring Matt Dillon a few years ago - "Wayward Pines". The books are great and in his foreward, he mentions how he wanted to write something that happened in the woods like "Twin peaks". The plot is different, but rarely have I seen a book-to-TV show so well executed. All three books are neatly transferred to a 10-episode season first season, including a genuine WTF twist halfway through. I didn't put this in my 20, but it was in the running. Now I think about it, it's much better than "Lost" that I put at #19!

I highly recommend the books and the first series .... but don't bother with series 2.
Come back and thank me later.

And just to be clear, this is NOT the "must watch" that I promised a few days ago.

Saw the first episode of Pines but didnt stick with it, might go back. Northern Exposure is another I need to see.
Yea I was a little late to the Twin Peaks party. I was dragged to the Trafford Centre when I was 21 by the misses. So I thought 'Im not leaving this godforsaken place without having something to show for it', so I took the plunge and payed £60 for the DVD box set on a whim. Best £60 Ive ever spent, Its extraordinary.

Yes, "Twin Peaks" was very good. Need to stick it on my "re-watch" list.

Definitely give "Wayward Pines" another go - from memory, there's nothing that happens in Episode 1 to mark it out as extraordinary. FBI agent goes missing in rural America, a few flashbacks, but what's going on, right? Well stick with it and prepare to be entertained. Having read the books, I was watching with my family to see whether they'd swerve anything but was overjoyed to see that they were following through on the core of the story. Sure, there are a few minor changes, but the story is intact and it's a belter.

Great to see Twin Peaks listing so highly.

I was reluctant to view the revival season but finally gave it a go a few months ago. I didn’t regret it.

It’s an audacious piece of television: blatantly surreal and just so defiant of most television conventions. Given that it was shot 25 years after Season 2 with many of the cast already having reached (or getting close to) pensionable age, along with its director, it really should have fallen flat on its face, and I am amazed that Lynch managed to get it made in the first place and retained complete directorial control over its considerable length.

For those who haven’t seen it, maybe you need to already be a convert to Lynch’s unique vision, so it does need approaching with caution.

But in my case, only Spiral and The Wire rate more highly.

Mystery serieses set in small town rural America, with paranormal undertones seems to appeal to me, so I will re-visit Wayward Pines. Sounds good.
