Bobby Charlton has passed away, aged 86

Just reading that he's the 5th member of the 1966 team diagnosed with dementia. There's definitely something in it.

Alan Shearer did a documentary on it a while back. You'd hope nowadays with the lighter balls it would be better, but for players back then, it's a definite thing.

Sad news. Never had much time for him but I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Having been through it with my Father in law I know what a cruel disease it is

Not being funny, but it's fk all to do with heading a bal,there's literally thousands who die of this every year, and never headed a ball in their life,

Geoff Astle's daughter has campaigned for years about it. It's definitely a thing with footballers from a certain era having headed footballs from their era.
I think American football has concluded with proof players have succumbed to it through their trade.

I don't think it was ever revealed exactly why they fell out. Strange how these things can happen - I have an elder brother & we are both roughly of the same generation as the Charlton brothers but I can't even comprehend how two siblings could fall out to that degree. By the way, England v Uruguay in 1966 was a 0-0 draw !. Shit game too. Maybe you were thinking of the goal against Mexico ? That was a belter !

Whether you like Booby Charlton or not, he has always seemed (to me) to have the weight of the world on his shoulders, he never recovered from being in that plane where many of his team mates perished, including our own Frank Swift. Very sad news.

Apparently he was always had a smile on his face and life and soul of the party until the crash understandably he was never the same person after

Yes of course, on my uncle's tv, he had colour. Only 6, but was a regular at maine rd by then.
