I think a major improvement in Europe will also help Jim. I wan't born when both Mercer and Allinson was in charge so didn't have the privilege to witness their achievements

It'd be a tough job to accurately compare the likes of Joe Royle, Peter Reid, Kevin Keegan or Brian Horton to Roberto Mancini. You could pull one aspect of their management as, in your opinion, better, but that one aspect in isolation isn't something to make a judgement on.

Obviously, the circumstances were different. I haven't a clue about his "man-management".

I actually very much liked Sven and the direction we were going, sure we had that poor end to the season really, but background problems certainly didn't help that.

At the time I half knew it wasn't going to last. Franky was looking for an exit, Sven (after his brilliant start to the season, unforgettable) had completely bottled it, and we all knew a change was coming, but we had no idea what until August 2008 :)

Without Sven and Franky, none of this may have happened!

You're not giving him anywhere near enough credit for his achievements in Italy, nor taking the defence Hughes bought that was leaking goals and making it twice as good in six months.

He won two Italian Cups with Fiorentina and Lazio when all of his main players being sold and players and himself not being paid.

Meanwhile the likes of David Moyes and Mark Hughes have not won anything yet apart from Hughes who has been found out at last, they have been courted for the top jobs for years.
