Is John Willie Lees ale still about?Sad that a "real manc" product went the way it did, at least we still have Holt's.

Jack's for a quid! When was that? Played 25p in '79 and pints were 20-25p so win a pot and beer for the night. It was the Pointsman, it’s a run down car lot these days. The Taproom was in Stalybridge and the best room in Ashton. Sunday dinner 12-2pm opening, they threw jacks out for £1 to get a game of don, there was generally about £50 in the pot so it was serious back in the day, play the wrong card and you were getting a ton of abuse, I never played. The place used to be packed Saturday tea time, lads that played football or those coming back from City and Rag games, pie and peas, a few pints of Boddies bitter and the Football Pink, happy days but City were shite then!
Boddies was one of the beers at the forefront of the widget can revolution, early 90s. Melanie Sykes and all that. Seemed the future of the beer and brewery was secure, but which brewing behemoth took them over and basically killed it off ?
...and they stopped using water from the Ship Canal. It's never been the same since it left Manchester and moved to Wales..
