Bodo/Glimt (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

He's done, he can't turn this bunch round. We need a fresh start as it's got so stale now, boring shite football to watch. Gone at the end of the season and i wouldn't be surprised if there's a statement soon saying just that

again, to be replaced by who?

Have people learnt nothing from our rag neigbours over the last 12 years or so...

this aint Pep...

The players arent good enough

No coach makes Rico Lewis and Reijnders into better players.....and there are others on that list as well

The players really needed Pep after Saturday and I feel he let them down with the tactical setup. I was happy with the side he picked until I saw where everyone was playing. It looked like Lewis, Foden and Cherki were all playing in the same position, the full backs were our main attacking outlet but there was no defensive cover whatsoever for them. Consequently they were constantly able to outnumber us 5 v 2 and the 2 were both kids. We're playing into the opponent's hands in every game.

Rodri obviously had enough and got himself sent off.

Bodo are on their mid winter break and haven't played for 6 weeks.

I really think Pep is done, I've always stuck up for him, yes we're playing a very young, very inexperienced and very high defence as tonight was a carbon copy of playing the red mardarses but the team look dead and absolutely clueless.

And don't get me started on Ian Ormondroyd up front, we start with 10 men every match lately.

Simply ain't good enough.

A lot of recency bias on here forgetting the form before we lost our two CBs to injury and had to call
back a kid on loan, then we lost our only RB who most people hated more than they hate Rico
Not only is the defence young ans makeshift it’s also not played together lacks a senior leader

Having said all that what makes me mad is Pep being so dogmatic to his principles when it’s going to shit revert to basics keep it simple round pegs for round holes Don’t play a LB at RB especially one who has hardly played for us Rodri is not the Rodri of the past and recognise that When I saw rh team sheet though that’s ok but 3 players ended up in different positions

The problem as I see it is Pep has one way of playing and will not change irrespective of the players available. The last two games have been abysmal. About this time last season he dropped Foden, Haaland got injured and Bernie was burnt out. Pep was forced to play Kovacic, Marmoush, Nico G…guess what, we looked harder to beat and went on a long winning run, Pep probably hated every minute of it and shoe horned a half fit Haaland back in at Southampton and we drew a blank and lost the cup final. I still think we will be ok when we get our injured players back, be ok as in top four and probably another domestic cup final.

Because the same players won’t always be available Pep needs a plan B, but he’d rather we lost than go against his principles.

Whilst we all like to romanticise about various managers and how they are either brilliant or terrible or even somewhere in between.

I can’t help but think you are only as good as your players. The system worked because city had Kyle Walker who would at times single handily stop counter attacks with his pace. City had Rodri the best in the world in his position. City had kdb, foden, Bernardo, gundogan, mahrez. All genuine world class players.

What they have now is players well below that level.

Im genuinely questioning how important a manager actually is? Of course they can raise performances etc but my point is are you only ever as good as your players? Did city dominate becasue they had the best squad? And more important. I’m not sure any other manager would get a batter tune out of these players

Wtf is wrong with Pep?! Instead of playing Marmoush since the beginning over that blonde plank, he puts him in when we are down to ten men and losing 3-1? Ait-Nouri as a right back even though he never played there in his life. Lewis for 90 minutes after that United performance? Just concede this season, I can't watch this anymore.
He's lost the plot.

Marmoush should have started over Haaland. I don't even like Marmoush but Haaland is done for now.

I don't care if Marmoush has just been at Afcon, it's about time he did something for us.

Rodri should be at home.

Ait Nouri is fucking crap, who is scouting these players

Time to go 433 with Marmoush up front Semenyo n Doku. Give Haarland n Foden a rest. Play Cherkki at 10.....how can it be any worse ?
He won't change anything he is a stubborn fooker who is hanging his team out to fail with his idiotic high line.
What was he thinking playing Ait-Nouri at rb ,mind boggling

Lucky to not concede 6 in the end. Again....

Shambolic from Pep and the players.

The fucking stupidity of the club having 1 full back and 2/5 centre backs being injury prone is incredible and whoever decided to go with that needs sacking. It's been 18 months a shite and nothing is changing anytime soon.
spot on...

How many times was this said during the summer transfer window......the happy clappers and so called bigger blues just wouldnt have it though

The reality is that back 4 isn’t CL standard.

Alleyne and Khusanov are good prospects (Khusanov much the better prospect imo) but nothing more and both wildly inexperienced. Ait Nouri isn’t a right back, thinks he’s playing 5 a side and doesn’t know what a recovery run is.

Given that, there needs to be some serious protection in front of them. Shielding them and stopping counters. A midfield of a past it Rodri, and 2 players who wouldn’t know a tackle or a recovery run if it bit them on the arse in Lewis and Reijnders, is simply not going to go provide that protection. This left the back 4 completely overwhelmed and with their inexperience, they made individual and collective mistakes. You cannot make those mistakes at this level. But I can’t blame them as they were pretty much “left to it” by that lack of protection.

It was a suicidal line up and formation. That’s Pep’s fault.

Additionally, an unacceptable lack of authority, desire, work rate and doing of the basics all across the pitch, which was particularly bad from Haaland, Foden and Lewis. That’s the player’s fault.

For me, had we had a back 4 of Nunes, Dias, Guehi, Gvardiol we’d have had no problems against what is a low level CL side and would have controlled their attacks easily.

We need to get Guehi in the team immediately and get Nunes back in at full back as our priorities for Wolves.
