Bodo/Glimt (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

We won the league with Fabian Delph at left back and won the league without a striker. This is Pep.
The players around Delphi were far greater than this current lot. The false 9 system was better than the one with haaland as it aloud for more fluidity. City also had more goals throughout the team in those days.

I’m not trying to undermine what people had achieved. I was actually trying to defend him in a roundabout way. I’m not sure the players are up to it. Pep can only do so much.

The one thing i dont get from tonight's game is why play Haaland Foden Cherki Donnarumma Rodri
Give Trafford a game play some of the kids, that way you can lose and not look daft or embarrassed

Why has the power energy fight gone, its a major puzzle and something does not feel right
When players are coasting and not putting in a shift, something has to be wrong in the background behind closed doors.

I think we are 1 more loss away from uproar from the stands and questions about the players and manager

Holy crap. That was shockingly bad. I mean, credit to Bodo, but they didn't actually have to do much to beat us.

How on earth a city team can turn up to that game, to any game, to the derby, with zero passion, zero application, zero desire, to win a football game.... I'm concerned. It feels like there's something very very wrong at my club.

Injuries have affected us. Two important home games coming up.
Got to get a win v Wolves who are improving. Pep needs to adapt. Let's see if he can do that.

Jesus what the hell was that, why the fuck are we going backwards and sideways against any fucker never mind a team that’s never won in this competition, not one blue can tell me what our game plan was not one

I’m sadly starting to think we might need a change.
We do need a change - to fuck off the players that are producing shite performances week after week.

Haaland - try resting him as he is offering fuck all recently.
Foden - bench for a few games, he’s giving nothing performances of late.
Reijnders - get him on a strengthening programme, at present he makes little footprint on a game.
Lewis - he’s now had 2 games against tougher opposition in 2 positions, and he’s been abject in both. Can’t play again anytime soon.

Alleyne - tough couple of games which will stand him in good stead for his development. Take him out the firing line now that Guehi is here and left him regroup.

Pep needs to get his finger out as well - get someone with legs and physicality next to Rodri (whether it’s either of the Nico’s or Bernardo working as a duo).

We need to get back to having a solid base and work from there.

I don’t think even Apollo himself could help now…

Karen Carney called it right after the match, why are we so bad in transition? We play so deep in the opposition half and then trot back when the other teams have sussed it and throw everyone forward leaving us massively out numbered,School playground level tactics
We've always been pretty poor in transition under Pep. We've just had ways of mitigating it

1) Lots of players who are reliable in possession. This meant we didn't lose it in stupid places very often
2) Very good when in attack. This meant we could pin teams as far back as possible and ensure that they were way too far away from goal to even start a counter before our press dealt with it
3) Very good defenders who could be aggressive when stepping into midfield to defend. This cut off a lot of the problem
4) Confidence to do all of the above

We're lacking on all 4 fronts these last couple of weeks

As disappointing as the results this month have been, it can't be a coincidence that we've suddenly become easy to carve through after Dias and Gvardiol both got injured (i.e. Brighton onwards)

The season is shot, and I suspect we might need a new head coach very soon
Its not shot, we have our finger in every pie but its getting tougher by the week.
A win today or against Leverkeusen would have us sitting pretty.
I think our most important match is the pvoming Newcastle Carabao Cup game.
A trip to Wembley and the return of a few players could be beneficial.

I doubt the plan was to lose…

from what we have seen of the academy kids no.....

Look at Alleyne struggling....and ll the others that have come on in various games look nowhere near ready....

There isnt the option int he squad at the moment and that is down to bad purchases......
And injuries.

Blame there is shared, IMO. Some of it is not beign realistic about Stones and Ake and not moving them along and signing replacements in the summer. Some of it is bad luck. Some of it is Pep's refusal to play with a bigger squad and make changes on a somewhat regular basis. Too many miles on the legs of the regulars, lack of experience for the guys we now need to rely upon.

Is Pep's era over? Have his style and tactics become outdated and predictable? Playing with slow, continuous sideways and back passes is ineffective. Every team creates scoring opportunities against City. A radical change is desperately needed at the club because this style is no longer viable or effective. The problem is that Pep is stubborn and refuses to change his approach.

Think there is a template now for all teams on how to play against a possession based team who play a high line! Pep has seen it now for around 18 months not come up with anything! When we we did have possession football teams rarley over commit players now they have 3/4/5 players running at our back 2/3 line! Pep as seen it and all I’ve seen how he is trying to counteract that is don’t make will passes play safe have an extra touch pass it back! Problem is it slow us down teams defend deep and will press us well can pass out from our press easily! Possession football is dead for me for the time being! Yep 2/3 up keep the ball not when it’s 0-0 or chasing games..

Could have half a dozen in our net the derby, and another half a dozen tonight ... maybe even more.

But Pep will still argue we had more possession !
The high line and lack of protection for the two sets of back four from Saturday and tonight is absolutely criminal
