Boiler packed up

Im just going to do a test on your questions mate.

I have just tested it again after turning the temp up to max 60 deg and it was the same cold at half tap power but down to a trickle it was red hot.

Be back in a tick after i've knocked the settings to water only.

Its winter she has the heating on most of the time lol

Heating set to 64 deg.

Anyways knocked it to water only and it was no different in the bath and the bathroom sink (this was better but a smaller tap) down stairs in the kitchen it was scalding hot from low to high speed though.

I then bled the radiator with that little key thing and a load of air came out but the pressure dropped from 1.5 to 1 still within the green triangle marker.

-- Sat Jan 21, 2012 3:09 pm --

As for the system flush, does this happen with a complete brand new system ?

The house did not have any heating bar old economy 7 storage heaters downstairs only, no heating upstairs at all.

OK mate, could be that the thermistors just need changing but in the meantime, if you turn the cold water pressure down at the boiler first and see if that makes a difference to the hot water at the bath tap.
I take it your boiler is downstairs and further away from the bathroom than it is to the kitchen ?
Ps gonna have to shoot off out very soon so if nobody comes along in the meantime feel free to PM me bud, it's just a process of elimination really and takes time.

As for the system flush, does this happen with a complete brand new system ?

Well it should do, even though there may not be sludge etc there's still shit (flux/solder and any dirt/shit that's gone into pipework/rads during installation) it's just best practice really.

Boiler is upstairs next room to bathroom.

How do you alter the cold water pressure ?

Will speak later on if you are going out, cheers for the help so far.

The only niggle i had, was the reason behind him stripping to his y-fronts while he was working. I have had a few tradesmen at my house over the years, they all kept their strides on, is it a plumming/gas man thing?

oi you said you wouldn't tell anybody!!!!

anyway less of that or i mention the picture of a certain place that is hanging up in your house!! ;-)

Haha. You have me bang to rights. It's all changed upstairs now i have had time to upgrade. The picture remains though. :-(

Those whose hot water is running cold after 5 minutes etc, what make of boiler do you have ? Probably the flow switch or hot water heat exchanger though.

Mines a Baxi mainscombi eco 30

The only problem seems to be when running a bath, you cant have the tap on more than a trickle or it will be a luke warm bath.

As I said before it used to be able to run a hot bath on full pelt.

Hiya Alf, you may get away with giving the heat exchanger a flush here, but failing that it will more than likely be that the heat exchanger needs replacing, that can be expensive though, so dependant upon how old/cheap the boiler is it may be more sensible/economical to have a new boiler installed.

Hope that helps.

that maine combi is a cheap budget boiler bought by baxi, has a rubber diaphram in the diverter valve which perishes causing no hot water! it s boilers like these pal that can be a drain on resources over the years

Cheers Paul, Alf says he gets water for around 5 minutes though in an earlier post mate rather than nothing at all, with that in mind would you still think the diaphragm could be the problem here on this boiler/model ?

hiya harry

those mains only do about 9l per min i think, i would crank down the cold main in to 9 lpm and then i would check the diaphram by seeing how strong it is and can it easily be pushed away from the microswitch.
if it runs with the burner on then burner light goes out then back on i would be looking at a blocked plate heat exch.
you d also have to check for cross leaking at a shower or mixer pal.

it d be dead easy to suss out standing in front of it.
