I was merely pointing out the irony of some clubs supporters who sing WWYWYWS and have been poorly attended for large parts of their history(as pointed out by the BWFC fan on this thread quoting poor attendances in the 80s and 90s) and they have now reverted to form with @10k attendances.
They are the very epitome of "fairweather fans" .

'Fairweather fans'? There were over 14,000 at our last home game, the biggest attendance in League 1, despite the fact that we were bottom on -11 points at the time and hadn't won a league game all season.

We're one of the top four best supported teams in the league behind Sunderland, Ipswich and Pompey, despite the fact that we weren't actually allowed to sell any season tickets at the start of the season.

Most clubs had low attendances in the 80's, especially those who were in the lower leagues at the time like we were.

Only City and Utd historically have bigger average attendances than us in the immediate area and that includes teams like Blackburn and Burnley, who have won league titles more recently than our last major trophy.

"A Kind Of Loving" is set in 1960s Bolton and Alan Bates and James Bolam attend a Bolton game at Burnden Park.
Not sure who the opposition was though,or the result of the game.

A little aside. I was a big fan of the British realist school of literature: Lynne Reid Banks, Stan Barstow, Alan Sillitoe, Shelaugh Delaney etc etc. Stan Barstow wrote " A kind of Loving" and was one of my literary heroes.
In middle age Stan went to live in Haworth, where a friend of mine had a bookshop in which I occasionally helped out.
We would go to the Fleece for a few beers and there I met Stan. He didn't particularly like talking about his work in his local, but he loved a game of doms. He later moved to Wales with his Welsh gf and died there a few years ago. A very friendly guy, down to earth.
So it is a nice memory to have, playing 5s and 3s with one of my heroes.

Contrast that to Sam Allardyce era. Full houses at The Reebok of 26/27/28,000.
Where have the other 16/17/18,000 fans gone to. Why are they not supporting BWFC when they most need them.
When City dropped 2 divisions they averaged over 28,000 and some matches had over 30,000 attendances.

You don't need a season ticket to attend a game. If they were bothered enough they would find a way to attend. Fair enough if they are protesting about ownership issues etc. but we had the same type of problems with Swales and we kept turning up in large numbers.

Bolton is a 1 team town(unless you count Horwich RMI).
City have to compete with the best supported team in the country. So you are completely right, Bolton is not Manchester.

I highlighted that fixture because it's a more accurate reflection of our support. Season tickets could only be sold once the takeover had been completed and that was the first home fixture after.

The club was in administration, practically on the verge of liquidation prior to that. Tickets for the Coventry game went on sale just 24 hours prior to kick-off. The Doncaster game was postponed at the last minute. Every home game until the takeover could also have been called off because the club may not have been able to fulfill the fixture.

You have good support mate. Moving the ground has not helped you I don’t think. It’s too far away from the population. Think you will be fine next season under Keith hill.
