Bonfire Night

I would be fine with the fireworks if it wasn't for the 'bangers'! The first time this year one went off it sounded like a bomb and I had a cup of tea in my hand which ended up all down the front of my tee-shirt!
I love to see the colours, the silver stars exploding (quietly) in the sky but when they go off like a machine gun it can be very scary.

So fireworks themselves are ok, it is just the bangs and the noise which of course scares the animals and the veterans suffering PTSD etc. Two of my brothers served around the world and both had postings in NI during the 'troubles' and I saw their suffering when they first came back. When you have seen your strong brother try to hide under the dashboard of your car when a firework goes off as you drive him home from Manchester Airport after a stint in Belfast then you get a small glimpse of what it can be like. Luckily both have now come to terms with it as far as I know but I will never forget.

Just a personal observation sorry. :-)

it’s a great post ... As an ex squaddie who has done a few NI tours I can empathise totally ..
