Right then, the match thread was a bit disappointing with some of the comments especially about Pep a bit of an over reaction. This could prove to be a very important point. Home games to come, I fully expect a top four finish. The main positive for me was the return of Jesus, I don't think we have any other player in the squad who would have scored with that header. Too many times have we seen header after header go over the bar. Also I thought Sane was a constant threat when he came on, he's played a lot and maybe needed a gentle reminder that he has to do what comes naturally. The fact is that whereas I am also disappointed with our season ultimately what do we expect with Kolarov and Navas at fullbacks? The defence is a bit of a mess and is the area that needs the overhaul. Komps and Ottamendi are both last ditch style players and for me I hope Stones will improve as he has great potential. Kolarov as others have said will shoot from ridiculous positions and his overlapping runs do not help Sane at all - he is not a clever footballer and needs to go. Navas in the team shows how poorly the cover we have at right back is. Time and again he is the one who gets the ball in good positions and elects to either go back - which slows us down and allows the opposition to set themselves - or hits the first man attempting a cross. I have to believe that Pep can see what we see and change it - two good fullbacks will transform our team as it will add a further dimension especially when teams set up with 8 behind the ball. If and it's a big if Pep fails to alter this, then I will start to question what he's doing.
Today Boro were fighting for their lives and on reflection it's a good point. No matter about performance we just need a further 9/10 points to get CL football. I live in hope.
