Borussia Monchengladbach (a) Post Match Thread

The level of control this team shows, from the first minute until the last (Rodri's brainfart notwithstanding) is incredible. The controlled press, movement, and positional play is just incredible. And realistically Stones, Kev, Zinchenko and maybe Aguero would be part of a first choice 11. Someone smarter than me can explain why our attacks seem a bit more urgent when Stones is playing - I assume he moves the ball up the pitch quicker? Bernie worked his arse off, and on another day it'd be 3 and 4 and totally over, but this side doesn't look like letting 1 in let alone 2 or 3.

Ferdinand's dog.

He shouldn’t have let Uncle Roy babysit it !

Very professional performance in complete control. Bernardo was amazing tonight, he is like a duracell battery and was literally everywhere. Cancelo was the chief orchestrator again and his crossing and distribution was excellent.

We are still too wasteful in front of goal and Jesus needs to be finishing those one on one's. But overall very satisfying evening.

Respect to Monchengaldbach. The defence was brave in possession and blocks; dangerous on the counter-attacks and made City work hard for any space. Work hard they did and after half an hour; the lead created by two of Portugal's neo golden generation.

Pretty much the same in the second half with a similar goal from the same people plus the much improved, more "hungrier" Gabriel Fernando de Jesus. I now fully expect them to go through to the quarter finals and cement their place as one of the eight best teams in Europe.

Whoever comes next - I've a feeling it will be Atletico Madrid - I'm looking forward to seeing this lot play against a higher quality of manager and footballer; for there's greatness in this squad. Cameo's for Aguero, Mahrez and Torres. No Stones, Zinchenko, Mendy, Ake, Fernandinho and de Bruyne.

On a side not, the referee was pretty good. Didn't fall for one of the banes of the game: diving [cheating] by both sets of players and played on most of the time: thus allowing the game to flow. Oh yeah, Rio Ferdinand is an idiot.
