Bournemouth (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Lots of truth in that, but it ignores the FACT that we have been living a charmed life this season, pulling victories out of nowhere, with full backs scoring winners out of nowhere, and a very VERY average start (at best) by some supposedly internal, world class, players.

Sure, injuries to two of our best players (Rodri & KDB) haven’t helped, but it’s that the entire team has looked disjointed, slow, ponderous, and under constant attack by clubs others are beating off the park.

We have looked devoid of attacking threat in many games, with today merely being the latest example. We had 2/3 possession and our first attempt on goal came on 79:20, with Haaland passing one into the keeper’s hands.

In fact, it wasn’t until Doku came on that we looked to have attacking threat at all, unless Nunes managed to get around the outside of his full back a time or two.

Defensively, only Ederson saved us getting the Sick Swan against us…at Bournemouth…so the last 4 years might have been glorious, but football is a “What have you done for me lately?” game, as United have learned to their horror! Istree doesn’t cut it, unfortunately, and everyone will bask in the warm glow of this defeat, and its manner, as the hopeful end of Pep’s Man City domination.

It feels like he’s been sussed, when teams in the lower half take us to the mat and we escape with a late win. When we are battered for 80 minutes, though, that’s a different animal and I’m hoping the ONLY factor at play was that half the starting line up was injured, as was most of the bench.

Lastly, we had a midfield today that played like they were running on molasses and needed three touches, and at least one 360° turn, just to get the ball under control and find half a yard of space. Gundo, God love him, has looked a pale shadow of the player who left for Barca, because the 2 years are like dog years at his age. Kova played well, but was hustling about trying to find a spark where none existed, and, to be honest, I’m not even sure who the midfield support was for most of the game, because they swept through us like wildfire.

I know it sounds alarmist to watch one really poor performance, that we almost pulled out of the bag, but for the width of the post, but no-one in their right minds could say that City looked anything but bereft of ideas and the energy to create any today. With a couple of tough games coming up and an international break that will be taking the poss if ANY City
Players leave, it’s not a great time for us and so I’m glad we have clawed our way to 2nd and are still in with a serious shout.

We desperately need players fit and at it RIGHT NOW, but it appears Pep and Co. are going to have to wait until after the international break for most of them, Christmas for Oscar and next season for Godri. What’s weird is that Godri might have played his last game for Pep, but we won’t know until Pep decides what he wants to do, which is a travesty in itself!

CTID and all that, but today was a bad day. Felt like the Housing Inspector came in and told me the crack I noticed in the wall was actually going to require a complete remodel and new foundation and it was only the lovely wallpaper that had been hiding the damage for the last 18 months!

Heard it all before.

People said the exact same when we started not that well the last 4 seasons. This is actually our best start to a season for a while…

The season we won the treble people on here were questioning whether Pep should go as late as February.

Then you get classic threads like this…

Been coming this. Rodri and KDB are such big misses, I was interested to see what Pep would come up with. Presumed it would be something creative, but Kovacic and Gundogan? I could have dreamt that one up.
Would have been a nightmare

I don't think it's fair to pull up old posts by stupid cunts and make them look like stupid cunts mate.

We aren’t doing too badly points wise but we are a long way from where we need to be performance wise.

We started the season really well without Rodri but since the first international break we have been very average. We haven’t played well since August for me.

The next 3 games are real tests with a squad down to the bare bones. We then have a very in form Forest side, palace away, the rags with new manager at home and Villa away. We also play 10 games in 36 days from Spurs onwards so need all players with the exception of Bobb and Rodri fit.

We have been lucky with fixtures so far but it gets harder now and we have to solve this problem of teams cutting through us like we aren’t there. Bournemouth could and perhaps should have scored five today and Fulham could have had 4 the other week. That bit is so unlike us. We shipped sloppy goals last season but overall generally had total control of the games. We don’t anymore.

We play way too cautiously going forward now which is ok if we totally dominate but we have started to give the ball away so often that the cautious approach needs binning off. All this intricate passing around a box crammed full of players is dull to watch and isn’t working.

Lots of thinking to do by Pep.
Teams cutting through. We definitely need that defensive midfielder. Without the two most important cogs, the engine misfires. These performances are always in us every year so I’m not too worried. If we can’t get a break through injuries, then obviously we could fall short.

Great goal from Gvardiol. Great attacking effort in the last 10 minutes. Great to see Doku come on and make a difference.
Another good show from Nunes, and we nearly got a point after a bad day at the office - and with a lot of luck, we could have won it at the death.
2 points behind the leaders after 10 games, despite barely getting out of 2nd gear so far this season.
Just thought I'd accentuate the positive.
Onwards and upwards blues.

Yeah he's got to rectify them fucking injuries eh..
FFS we have players who you can see aren't anything like fully fit..Pep even said earlier that players are playing through the pain barrier.
Once we get players back we will be fine..just got to keep hanging in there until then.
I agree. It's the first time I am looking forward to an international break. Maybe give some of our lads a rest and get back some injured players. I can't see many of them reporting for international duty

Been coming for a few weeks that result. We got away with it vs Brentford, Fulham & Wolves and sleepwalked past Southampton.

Too many absentees, too many way below their usual level and the lack of quality additions in the summer - which were so badly needed - have finally caught us up. Gundo is 34 and looks 54, KDB is 33 and his body is failing him, Kovacic is 30 and Bernie is 30. The time to plan for this and add some fresh legs is long overdue. We look old in that key area and the complete absence of a Rodri deputy means teams just cut through us now and are so easily straight into our back 4 as Kovacic isnt a a holding midfielder, nor has the natural instincts to survive as one against decent attacking sides.

It doesnt help that Foden is miles off it too as hes now the talisman for us in that area of the field; we will only go as far as he can take us this season.

On the plus side - its remarkable we are 2nd and have lost just 1 game playing the way we have been this season. Weve got away with it and our aim must be to try to get to Jan 1st and still be within 3-4pts of top spot. If the club fails to add in central midfield and up top in Jan then the FA Cup and a top 4 spot is the maximum this squad can achieve sans Rodri in it.

Bigger picture weve just won the league 4 straight seasons, weve won a major pot in 7 seasons in a row and under Pep weve seen City lift every major trophy and one of our players win every major award too. Sometimes its worth reminding ourselves of that given the meltdowns by some of our fans on social media when we do lose a match.

That was our first league defeat in the calendar year - its November! Looking at the fixtures and our absences there may be more difficult days ahead upcoming - lets hope not, Circle the wagons and we go again.

Some decent young talent on the bench today. I find Pep's decision not to use them baffling.
He can't rate Mcatee one bit or trust him in a prem game, obviously Gundo and Bernardo are offering so much more just look at their stats this season, mind blowing. Time to give Mcatee a run in the side, but one poor game and he will be the scapegoat
