Bournemouth (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Really enjoyed the game last night. Fair play to Bournemouth trying to play. Apart from all the fouls and that “tackle”. 3 great goals for us.

Loved seeing the stadium pretty much full for Kev.

I thought it was interesting that Bournemouth played with quite a high line, and pressed quite high up on the pitch (and not just after they went behind, before that as well). However, the lads seemed to deal with it quite well which is an encouraging sign.

The same negative “fans” on the pre match thread mocking Pep & the team selection - saying it was too old & not for the future. Well - those “oldies” ran the show. Bernie - after a poor first 10 minutes- fought like a soldier & scored; Kovo & Gundy were driving forces; Nunes is improving every match.
Great team; great result considering the importance of the game; great atmosphere & most importantly an AMAZING send off for Kevin with our real fans filling the stadium till the end.
Well done everyone - a memorable night.

I don't know you know, I noticed he was taking up positions wide a lot and also when there was a chance of receiving the ball from a cross, he seemed to take the wrong position. I'd say he was more involved than previous games but just his overall positioning seemed well off. He'll be back!
There was a point in the first half where we had the ball on our left just outside the Bournemouth area. It was screaming for Haaland to make a run from where he was beyond the far post, in front of the defender marking him, so the ball could be played into him in front of goal, where there was plenty of space. Yet he didn't move, and that happened a few times. We all commented on this, but we assumed he's being told not to do this.

However Pep has said he leaves the decisions in the final third to the players. So maybe it's Haaland's choice. If so, it's a piss poor, brainless choice.

While it was overall a satisfying performance and result, defensive brain farts with bad passes cost us a goal and red card. And it wasn't just those two. So many of our passes seemed to go behind a player, or straight to him and forcing him to stop to pick up the pass. Even that one that KDB missed, was slightly behind him, meaning he had to pull his leg back more than he should have needed to do.

The one thing I was told when playing was to put a pass in front of a player, particularly one running at pace, but so many of ours went behind players completely or forced them to stop or turn back slightly. And that was a constant throughout the game, particularly in the second half. Really, really sloppy.

We need more forward passes into space for us to run onto!!! Only problem many of our team are too old/ slow now.I believe we must have a clear out and get round pegs in round holes as well!! midfield we have a good start with Rodri and the two Nico’s. Get them together now!!

Taking the emotion out of the game, there were a lot of players who are done for the season. As PB said, inexplicable attempted passes poorly executed. Josko shouldn't be dicked around between fullback and centre half, Manu still looks rusty (Nunes bailed him out a couple of times), Erling was ... not Erling and even Marmoush desperately needs to be taught how to hold up the ball and strength in possession.

It was an end of season performance, but sadly it's not the end of the season by a long way.

My fears over the game were allayed after 10 minutes when I realised how easy it was for us to get the ball back. Bournemouth weren't really at the races were they? Maybe on the beach.
I had another slight fear when Kovacic got his red, but Lewis Cook made sure it didn't last long.

Taking nothing away from us, the "old" lads in midfield all had good games and we dominated. A very good performance.

The term "begs belief" refers to something that is too extraordinary to be believed. It can also refer to something that is not worthy of belief or trust.

I’m not saying the use of the term “beggars belief” is wrong. I’m saying “begs belief” isn’t wrong, as used.
This debate begs the question, is this just another Americanism, like "I could care less"?

But something that begs belief would mean something likely to make you believe, whereas something that beggars belief would mean something that you find it hard to believe.

(And I'm an etymologist. Well, English Language GCE grade 1.... when grade 1 was good)

Those old guys ran the show and their control and use of their bodies are the best in the team. Both Marmoush and Haaland are not good on the ball and neither is Nunes.or Doku.
I'll let Marmoush off though as he put a 30 yarder in the top corner
