Bournemouth (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Can I just check that other than the fabulous fans of the South Stand - if anyone else was at the game? From the Colin Bell we could hear Earling breathing - Jesus what an embarrassing fan performance. Worse than Everton, despite some good football too…maybe I should stick to Away games only and boycott the Etihad…
Cobblers. Best atmosphere of the season - thanks to Taylor.

At the time they looked like they were and he just waved them away, to be fair I haven't seen the replay and my eyes were bulging in fury at the time ;-)
He didn’t think they were pens (and neither should have been given) so surely he is correct to wave play on. It’s up to VAR to take a look but he doesn’t stop the game

First time this season we've performed good in both half's against a decent Bournemouth side to.
Loads of positives to take from today midfield looked great and that's without Rodri. Well deserved 3 points CTID
2 DMs, 2 tens...Doku in a free role as a second striker. No wingers just 2 attacking fullbacks. Absolutely beautiful!

Bournemouth and their very astute manager are poster boys for the new way of playing and they are a tough opponent but what we saw today was that high quality technical players following the old school Pep way of doing things can still come out on top, which is why Pep insisted prematch that he did not beleive he needed to change his approach. Of course Pep does evolve and adapt, without straying from his underlying principles of how the game should be played. He is also tactically flexible as we saw today and as Michael Carrick explained on MotD.

Using Nunes and NOR like wing backs was a great success: both of them were fabulous and the strides these two midfield players have made as full backs is a joy to behold. I almost feel sorry for RAN.

Nico G’s progress is also a pleasure to behold; as is the continuing maturing of Phil Foden.

Young Mr Cherki still has a lot to learn but what an exciting prospect he is.

Haaland is just a Joker: he is taking the piss not scoring hatricks.

As for Anthony Taylor and his VARcical colleagues - I couldn’t tell at the game if The don has just cocked-up or been fouled but I’ve not seen the stills and video and it is beyond a joke that their goal stood. Good to see Pep make it very clear what he really thinks about how City are treated by officials.

Anyway City’s best and most promising performance of the season. Good start to another big week.

Gigi - Should have shrugged Brooks off, but no doubt he was fouled. Problem is, people see him get to the ball with a poor punch and he’s seen as the problem. He isn’t.

Nunes - Possibly his most complete performance in sky blue. One errant pass across the midfield highlighted how good he was, because even after that pass I just shrugged!

O’Reilly - Glad he made up for fluffing his lines in the first half. Excellent attacking RB performance.

Dias & Gvardiol - Did they play? Tells you how good we were in midfield that I can’t remember much they did, although Josko had a nice block in the 2nd half.

Bernardo - Outstanding! Time to start calling him “Spackle” because he filled in every defensive hole we created without any fanfare, while covering every blade of grass twice.

Nico - Most complete DM performance of the season. I hope Rodri gets fit in time to give him a rest!

Cherki - Looks like he might fit in!!! Got a bit of everything to his game, including a headed assist in midfield! No ceiling on him.

Foden - While not outstanding, he is cementing his place in midfield with complete offensive and defensive efforts.

Doku - Excellent work on the wing against a strong, fast defender, but even more impressive was his work across the line, interacting with the rest of the attacking line.

Haaland - One foot higher and that dink would have given him a well-deserved first half hat -trick. Simply fantastic performance, but was knackered by 70th minute and was a much needed substitution. As NBC host said, “Find every piece of cotton wool in Manchester and wrap him in it!”

-/-/-/-/-

RAN - Going to struggle to get into the team given NOR’s performances.

Marmoush - Meh. Not much time or opportunity.

Savinho - Oh dear. So much promise, but zero follow through.

Rodri - Any chance to get him minutes this week is welcomed, but I’d rather him not play than break down. Save some of Erling’s cotton wool for Godri!

Reijnders - Cracking shot that highlights what he could bring to the team, but with the current performances in midfield, he’s going to have to up his game to get more time. Like him alot, but others are simply playing better.

Pep - Yeah, more of that, please! Good to see him being a little pointed about the ref.

A great game yesterday with some outstanding individual performances thrown in too, as others have mentioned. Bournemouth are a very good side who played their part but our class in key areas won us the game. When you consider they sold some of their best players and are a small club, no disrespect, what they are doing there is remarkable.

The atmosphere was excellent too, helped by our, quite rightly, anger towards everybody's favourite ref, "Alty" fucking Taylor. The man is an out and out twat who did his best to spoil a great game. When he's "On it" boy is he on it and that was very much the case yesterday. On such days he sets the tone early and driven on by the rage from the fans he just gets worse and worse and loves playing the pantomime villain. I'm glad Pep called him out, the way we are reffed compared to other teams is a disgrace and shows just how good we have been to achieve what we have in spite of these biased cretins.

Thank God for the match day buses yesterday, a great job done and made what would have been a horrible journey, thanks to the wankers at metrolink, a whole lot easier. I caught the Altrincham one down and the Didsbury one back as I was meeting friends for a drink there. Both buses were standing room only due to the tram problems but thanks for being there.

Yes I second that sentiment, first time I have used the buses and it will not be the last. As you said standing room only but no one complained and the driver even dropped 3 off us off nearer home after his official last stop in Timperley village.

Fuck off Metrolink you are as bad as Alty.

The drivers on the whole are great and going back will happily drop people off at a non designated stop so long as it's along their route.

A good performance from us with a couple of really effective individual showings. Bournemouth passed it around quite nicely at times but I thought they were a little bit blunt up front. No doubt the dips will raise their game on Sunday against us, so I think we'll have to play like yesterday as a bare minimum. Those half a dozen or so sloppy passes we played yesterday could easily be punished.

I really enjoyed the game..credit to Bournemouth for coming and having a go..it's such a refreshing change to see someone who has the belief that they can go toe to toe with us.
Some excellent performances from our players..Nunes, Nico G, Phil, Cherki, big Earl and Nico O.
The others were good to very good
I can understand the twat from Alty not seeing the Bournemouth player holding on to big Dons arm at the corner but how the fuck does VAR not call it out..
To me it proves VAR is just fucking pointless and needs binning off asap.

On the holding of Donnarumma's arm I believe var didn't get involved as they like to go with the onfield decision in such cases.....that is unless it's in our favour of course. Who can forget the header against Liverpool being ruled out because the goalscorer had the audacity to bump into Allison as they both jumped for the ball.

I'm still fuming over the two handball shouts in quick succession the rag twat didn't look at but just casually waved away.

And if either had been given against us, you'd be fuming! Neither were penalties.
The one that looked obvious hit the player's knee and then his arm, but I doubt Taylor would have been able to see the deflection.
So not a penalty unless you're Fat Phil Dowd watching Micah do the same thing at Anfield, in which case it's obviously a penalty.

A good performance, nice to see us play well for the full ninety minutes.
Our new style of play suits Haaland more than the slow tippy tapping stuff did.
I think a lot of the quicker play was down to Bournemouth press we had to play quicker and it suited us.
We will be back to tippy tappy the next team that stack 10 men behind the ball.
Great game.
