I for one won't be stepping foot in this pub. Not because of anything the landlord may / may not have done/said/shown, just because I have no fuckin idea where it is

I called the pub earlier to ask if the game was being shown, not to enquire how many tv's you were showing it on......
All three of us heard you say you hate City....don't know if you like Liverpool, you never said, and I didn't put that in the op, but yeah, of course you will deny that now.....
As far as we are concerned....show whatever games you choose....legally or otherwise. Boycott for us and all the Blues we know stands
Sorry, I can't have that. You can say what you like about whether you bullied the staff or not into showing it on the screen of your choice, but I will not be painted as anti-City.
I didn't at any point say I hate City, because it simply isn't true. I know a lot of our City regulars and it has been a privilege over the years seeing the unique City rollercoaster ride unfold. Personally, I'm a Blackburn fan from wales Who runs a Manchester boozer, owned by a Suffolk brewery named after a Scottish poem. My business partner is a Tottenham fan. What reason would we have to hate City, who by and large are lovely fans who like the atmosphere in the pub and come to the games we show, mostly the away games.
As I say, I'd be grateful for people reading this thread to simply make their own minds up. If we hated City as much as you suggest, then why are we bumping all the other games this Bank Holiday Sunday to enable fans to watch Sunderland v City @ 3pm. It's not solely for the Sunderland fans, let me tell you.
Oh and we'll be stocking Blue Moon on draft from late September. Hardly the act of an anti-City landlord I'd suggest.
Best

Happy to clarify. The channel we used last night was Eurosport Germany, which can be found at 19.2e Astra. It's a free to air channel, so no problems from a legal standpoint (check out http://www.liveonsat.com - any channel in red is free to air) for anyone worried about that. In fact, if you had a motorised dish you'd have been able to watch it no problem at home.
Clearly, it's not ideal it was on in German but we had no other choice as ESPN is not available to us at present. A similar situation happens to us with away games in the Champions League which often don't have an English language feed.
As I'm sure people will have gathered, we don't have a UK commercial Sky system in the Lass. We use a combination of free to air channels and legally procured EU cards for EU channels, which are currently in legal hiatus due to the Karen Murphy case (I won't bore you with the details, but if you google Karen Murphy you'll find plenty of info on there). As we understand it, this case is due to be heard at the European Court in October and a ruling given in the spring of next year on the legality of using EU systems to show football in pubs in the UK under the principle of the free movement of goods and services (a key tenent of the Treaty of Rome).
So, until then we won't be using Sky but a combination of things which means we have to be pretty nimble on our feet when trying to please everyone and show as many games as possible. Sky are very aware of al this, but feel free to tell them or anyone else what we're doing (although I'm pretty sure they know exactly who is using EU cards in town, frankly).
The alternative is to hand Rupert Murdoch £20,000 pa for the privelige of showing the games he wants us to see, which probably doesn't make a lot of sense either....
